anniehanlon, I take it you have sky talk freetime. I use 18185 for all my calls, it has a 5p connection for uk calls and I am not restricted to 1 hr. I use it for international calls e.g france, singapore and it costs me only 1p per min + 5p connection fee. It will be also be cheaper since you cannot use 1280 to route to bt than sky. I make 6 calls through bt per quarter to qualilfy for the caller display but this will have to be cancelled if I go with sky talk. Pl do check their website www.18185.co.uk. It has saved me loads esp ringing dr's surgery when you are put on hold for a long time.
I've just joined up with 1899. Isnt that the same company?0 -
Thanks, in that case, may be I will be £5 better off since sky wants to downgrade me to base from mid after my complaint. as I am a light user. I will just subscribe to sky talk freetime and get it free. It will be to my advantage but I seem to be reluctant to go sky for calls although I will use only 18185. Does anybody know how easy it is to go back to bt for your calls if you are not happy with sky? I will definitely keep my bt line. Guess, will have to make a decision in February!! Thanks
i was with talk talk for a while but i transfered my calls back over to BT it took about 10 days for it to happen but it was no problem.0 -

sometimes paying minimal for everything is the difference between scraping by & falling into living on credit to survive - its called budgetingSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
same rates for texts and calls to countries that I call
can you give some examples of how its cheaper.
UK Weekday calls to mobiles.
USA 1p/min on 1899 - 0.5p/min on 18185
Spain 2p/min on 1899 - 1p/min on 18185.
China 2p/min on 1899 - 1p/min on 18185
Croatia 8p/min on 1899 - 5p/min on 18185
Plus many others.
Czech Republic cheaper on 1899.
I'm registered with 18866, 1899 and 18185 and use the cheapest provider for the calls I make, some are with 18185, others with 1899.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... not impressed that sky are just upping the costs
where's the loyal customer base?
they say for mid base current £5/month can be kept if you take out sky talk, but that's £10/month!
wish my area had cable so i have a choice on tv and broadband etc. and then negotiate a price, or try0 -
I just moved to O2 broadband yesterday, I am not letting Sky hold me to ransom if I don't take their telephone line. The migrating was painless & no hastle at all. I am getting a faster speed than I was getting with Sky, my package with Sky was mid 8meg & I was getting 6.2meg, the package with O2 is the 8meg for £7.34(less the Quidco so making it £2.34mth) & the few speed tests I have done is 8.6meg. So I am happy at the moment.
I also went through Quidco & got £60 from O2, It has been tracked so I think it will go through ok.

Sky are sneaky so and so's, not a company I'd want to move all my services to because they are forcing my hand. Plus they have you screwed over, you can't dump the TV service to save money when times are hard as you'll lose broadband and phone and if you want to change phone provider, you'll be stuck with a £125 bill to do so.
Sky Line rental - no I'm no fool! OK some people might see they are making some savings, but then they have never properly looked into saving money on the phone service before, so have not known the years of savings that have been available to them.
As always said by those in the know - NEVER move line rental away from BT.
Thanks for this I'm pleased to know I have made the right choice.;)
Earlier this year I was very tempted to move my line rental to Sky, since I was already using Sky Talk. The problems I had in trying to do this were unbelievable:eek:. Sky said they'd take over the phone line, then I didn't hear anything further and didn't receive the paper work. I contacted them only to be told that BT had a priority fault repair service (I'm disabled) attached to the line so I'd have to contact them direct. I did so and BT said there was no problem and that Sky should be contacting them - not me:rolleyes:. I telephoned Sky again, explained the situation and the same scenario occurred. I finally managed to get the priority service removed and my Sky order was put through - once again nothing happened. I gave up.
However I found out subsequently that Sky Talk were blocking the choice to use an over-ride service - even though my line was still with BT, so I could no longer make my two calls via BT in order to get free caller display (handy if you want to text via the house phone) and they were going to stop the use of 18185 prefix too. Instead I moved my calls back to BT - got their free national and local calls 24/7 with a discount for taking 12 month contract, so ended up with a cheaper deal than Sky and it meant I could include mobiles in my 'Friends and Family' numbers. I also get free caller display and can use 18185 again plus 100 free texts per month.
I was of course quite miffed to find that Sky then decided to charge £5 for their broadband base, so I called to find out what could be done (using one of the land-line numbers from saynoto0870.com). I got through without waiting in a queue, mentioned that I wasn't happy with the service since I had tried for literally months to get Sky line-rental and that my line won't support more than 2mgb which I can't use if I have the Sky box plugged into the phone-line at the same time as the wireless modem (on the advice of their engineer).
I'm happy to report that they have frozen the cost of my broadband at £0.
I too would say to think very hard before having everything with Sky it's really worth looking hard at all the swings and roundabouts. Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever
