Trickmeister said:Anyone any experience of using LPG-Save for getting competitive quotes at renewal?I used LPG Save November 2021 when Calor Gas raised their prices which broke our agreement. LPG Save obtained a very competitive quote from Flogas which I accepted and I gave Calor Gas notice to terminate after 22 years of business.Quote was for 40p/litre. Calor had missed the 20 year tank test so they had to replace tank which caused a delay in the transfer of tank ownership so ended up with 48p/litre.Highly recommended.1

Good Afternoon - Has anyone considered Air Source Heat Pump changeover from LPG. I'm considering this as I use 2500 litres per year. What are the pro's v con's?0
-
If you are using 2500 litres then you are consuming 17,500 kWh of energy. If you were replacing this with purely electric heating then it would cost approx. = £5,950 with the government funded price cap announced by PM Truss. With Air source, the important thing is the COP value which is how much energy will be produced from 1 kWh of input power.
Pros - You are not tied into LPG suppliers and the awful experience that this entails.
Cons - You will usually need to replace your entire heating system as the water temperature is usually lower in Air Source. If you do not have a modern house with modern insulation then basically forget it, regardless of the promised COP, it will never be more affordable than the alternatives, especially given the capital costs for purchase and installation.1 -
Badger04 said:Back on tanks. I wanted to check situation about safety with my underground tank. Rang flogas and they sent out an engineer to check. He did a full inspection and we agreed to put in posts to stop possibility of driving over tank. This is really important as underground tank covers will not take the weight of a car on them and you could have a serious uncontrollable release if the top of the tank broke.
Also, he gave me a new label to point out to emergency services where the gas cut off on the outside of the house is situated. If you have a fire in the house the fire brigade need to cut off the supply. If they cannot find this it will delay them. This is obviously an important safety point both for you and the fire brigade. It will also ensure there are no questions about compliance with your insurer if god forbid you have a fire. The Flogas engineer was very helpful and used common sense re suggestions for the tank and fittings. LPG is a flammable gas and needs to be treated with respect. There is an issue with older tanks and new regulations, but they were introduced to improve the safety of you, your family and your neighbours. If you are in any way concerned contact your supplier and discuss what needs to be done. I hope this helps!
Pity you don't take into account that they are constantly changing the rules. There is no where in my garden which is now suitable for a bulk tank.
Yet its present location was perfectly acceptable in the past.
Odd how some people are fans of safety when there is downside for them.0 -
callenbll said:We took out a fixed contract with Northern Energy back in October 2020. You would say we were lucky with fixing at 35ppl. However (and my own fault for not reading the small print), their clause allowed them to increase the price if the ANSI price rose. The result was 85ppl earlier in the year, with no way of exiting the contract. Scandalous, as it's obvious they wouldn't have dropped my price if the market price went down. My DD had to go up from £125 to £275/month to pay off the balance, so pretty crippling.
Fair to say, I won't be using them again, and would certainly not recommend them to anyone. However the contract ending in October, I can't see this putting me in a much stronger position. As I see it, a couple of options:
1) Look around for new suppliers/new contract. However, that's certainly not going to be at a good price.
2) Stick with the current rogues until the price (hopefully) drops and then look for a new contract.
Also, if I'm out of contract, does that allow me to call round any independent suppliers and have them fill the tank? Any thoughts are more than welcome.
Thanks1 -
I am on a fixed price with Calor with a price of 43.5 p per litre. the contract runs until 31 Jan 2023 yet they are now increasing the price to 69p per litre. Can they do this whilst in a contract?I have been on the phone now for almost 1 hour and they just keep saying your call is important to us etc etc.Waste of time emailing as they send an automated reply that they will reply within two days but they never do!0

Yes, I've had the same problem as well - can't get through. If you get an answer then let us know. I am hoping this is a standard letter they have sent out to everyone and doesn't apply if you are locked into a fixed term contract.I have been hanging on the phone now for over 90 mins and still no answer. Do they not realise that a frustrated customer gets even more frustrated when treated this way, why don't they get more people to answer the phones!Fwiw I don't think it's just a standard letter they sent one with an earlier price increase and they quote that new higher amount on my online account. Looking at other comments they seem to just ignore the contracts?0 -
I Have just spent 2hours listening to calor telling me my call is important to them, they don't answer emails, how on earth can one contact them.Has anyone with a LPG account actually managed to get them to answer the phone?0
