You are sure it is noncompliant, I suppose? One wall shouldn't do it, though it depends what wall of course. A wall of a dwelling would certainly do it..Such a shame this wasn't sorted when the tank was replaced.

My advice would be to try moving to Midlands lpg (about which I've seen good reports) and see what happens. They can only say no. If they accept the move they will sort it with Calor. If the answer is no go back to calor and ask them to match Midland lpg's price.

Also, Calor have a legal responsibility to make the tank - their tank - compliant, if that is possible given the layout of the property, at their expense. If Midland (or anyone) surveys the tank, and says it is noncompliant, ask them to be specific and detailed about why not, and ask them if in their opinion it can be made compliant. Listen carefully and then ask Calor for an engineer appointment to discuss their failure to make it compliant when the tank was replaced. Assuming it could have been compliant, they have been very naughty. If the tank can be resited you might have to pay for the tank footings and base. They give you dimensions, I got a local handyman to do it for £100 when mine was resited.

The other advice I always give is that shouting and ranting never gets one anywhere. A persistent and clear message that they have been negligent and would they please put matters right so your valued relationship can continue, is much more productive. But mind they match your best price :-)

Good luck and let us know how you get on ..

If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..

Thank you - that's very helpful. I might try it the other way around - contact Calor and see if they will match and then perhaps alongside chat to Midlands LPG (that way if Calor can't get close then I can always explore the switch).

    Will keep you posted.

NEVER EVER go with a "variable" 2nd year quote - you will be fleeced.

Get both years price fixed in the contract.

Just send Midlands a photo of where your tank is - that is the cheapest deal. They may take you on.

The Calor price is outrageous - if you want to stay with them then you need to negotiate them down to at least 48ppl for BOTH years.

I, and a neighbour, have both been ripped off by Calor when we started out with our LPG tanks ( 8 years apart ) - the company is incredibly bad value for money. I don't know why this isn't common knowledge by now and LPG tank owners should avoid them where possible.

@Woggle - To recount my experience which may be useful.. after about 10 years with Calor and through my own ignorance and naivety we had allowed ourselves to be ripped off on price. Once I discovered this and after Calor Customer Services made a poor price offer I started a switch to Flogas who pointed out that we had one of the tank types where the paint peeled and they would not take us on until fixed. I contacted Calor who at this point were not aware of my intention to switch and they promptly and without fuss sent out a team to fix the paint. Very tidy job, very happy. Once Flogas accepted us and notified Calor, Calor came back with an offer at the same price, but only for 1 year fixed. I asked for both years which they agreed to. Other then the price gouging we've had very good service with Calor so I stuck with them. So my point being a) Calor may do the right thing if your tank is non-compliant and b) if you start to switch they may match your other offer(s) at which point you can decide who to go with.

Our contract is up in November and I'm curious what Calor will offer.

Would you be prepared to divulge the price per litre, as this will help others (including myself!) when faced with a similar situation?
