Student Loan Direct Debit or Not
Hi Folks, I have less than two years until my loans are repaid and have a letter advising to move to direct debit. Will this be a good decision? As I understand, my gross of 45000 is taxed. From that, 21000, is taken off, and then 0.09% of whats left is divided by 12 which = the monthly student loan take out from the…

Student loans for school age
Can I get a student loan for my daughter who is still at school? I can only afford one uniform for her, which is having to last all week before I can wash it, and I've only just found out she's been having to do PE in her pants since September as I cannot afford any PE kit either. So some sort of help so she can have a…

Study and living in USA
Hi, I am going to the USA for 6 months, as part of my university degree. Does anyone know the most cost effective way to live and pay for everyday purchases while there? Is there a bank in the UK linked to one in America and should I open an account there? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Advice on Student Loans
I’m looking for some advice on what to do as I have no idea! I live in Scotland and took out a student loan in 2007 and 2008. These are Plan 1. I currently earn over the threshold for repayments but it does not come off my wages. I have phoned the Student Loans Company on two occasions - November 2016 and June 2017. In…

Is student loan repayment system fair?
I've recently discovered the way repaying my student loan works exactly, I pay a certain amount to the HMRC every month and they then pay the student loans company at the end of each tax year. After getting a statement through recently I realised i'm getting charged monthly interest on the same balance over the year though…

SLC: Letter received, repay within 2 years
I received a letter from the SLC, specifying that I am within 2 years of repaying the loan and giving me the option of paying the whole lot or setting up a direct debit. If a direct debit is setup, what happens if: - I become unemployed? - my income drops? (presumably they would have to recalculate and adjust the DD?)

How to access the OU course Managing Money for Young Adults?
Apologies if this is the wrong forum - it was the nearest I could find. Can anyone direct me to this…

The thought of another 2…

Should you be charged University Fees when not as Uni?
Hello, Looking for some advice, My daughter has managed to independently find a years internship. Her University is saying she has to pay a 'Placement' fee for this year even though she will not be attending University. This does not sound correct to me as a placement is not even an essential part of her degree. I view…

Overpay mortgage or clear student loan?
My DD has a student loan pre 2012 with repayments of about £270 per month. She also has savings (thanks to generous grandparents) which could have cleared the loan but we thought it would be better to keep the loan and the savings for all the reasons Martin mentioned. She is now buying a flat and because she has a large…
