Is there a way to get GCSE's at home for free/cheaper?

Options
I'm wondering if there is a way one is able to get basic Maths/English GCSEs for free when out of education? My boyfriend is 21 and wants to get his GCSEs, however we are expecting a child together and financially are not in a position to be spending hundreds of pounds on exams (hell, we don't even have hundreds of pounds) ~

Even if you could get the course materials free of charge (which I would have thought is unlikely) there is still an examination fee that would have to be paid, and probably a fee for the issue of certificates.

If you can attend a local college, maths and English GCSE's should be free as they are fully funded, but he will have to attend classes. Lots of colleges have night classes for these subjects, but he will probably have to wait until September.

Check out your local further education college.

Your local library may also have information on adult education classes.

If think for under 24 year olds the will also cover the exam fees. I know 16-19 y/o get everything covered. But as others have said, English and Maths are always available for free. Also, Level 3 qualifications might be free if he doesn't have these already.

Check with your local college what options are available, but he might have to wait until September. If this is the case, look up local e-learning centres or online course options (these are also both free). They don't do GCSEs but the do Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications which are the same equivalent. They are also easier but more practical/useful in real life. I used to tutor these in an e-learning centre and think they are more useful than GCSEs in terms of content and real-life application. And they wont take 2 years o complete.
