student finance for the mature student
So..I am new to the forum, but need a question answering. I am about to apply for student finance to study to be a nurse with the OU. At 48, and a 3 year course, this would take me to 51 before I would need to repay anything. What happens at retirement age as the loan is wiped after 30 years and hopefully, I am still not…

PGCE Funding and additional help
Hi, so I am looking at doing a maths PGCE and wondering what funding I am entitled to as a single parent. I would be doing the PGCE full time and would have no income. However, I do know I would be entitled to a £25,000 bursary so I'm just wondering if any one knows exactly what of the following I would be entitled to in…

Student loan interest/repayment a scam?
Can't believe I only just noticed this. HMRC deduct money from my paycheck every month for student loans repayment, but then they sit on it until the end of the financial year before handing it over to the Student Loans Company as a lump sum. Meaning, throughout the year, SLC are applying interest each month based on a…

cut-off date/age for old style student loans?
Hope this is the right board. I went to uni from 1995-99, so got 4 loans out at the time, one for each year. This would have been the old consumer debt-style student loans. Anyway, what with ill health, low income and other circumstances I've deferred repayment every year since I graduated. My question is: I vaguely…

Student loans- old style- 4 loans from 1995-1998
Hi, I was at university starting in 1995 and graduating in 1999. I will be 50 next year and am unclear as to whether all 4 loans will be written off from Erudio's books or just the first 3- ie do all post 1998 loans have the same terms or is it dependent on when the course started?? So do all 4 get treated the same?? I've…

Should I pay for my final year rather than a loan?
Hi, So I started University in September 2014, I've done 3 years, one of these being a placement year, and have taken tuition fees for all 3, so totalling about £19,000, I have no other loans. I have the ability to pay for final year out of my own money, rather than adding to my loan. I would hope/expect to start on a Grad…

query re: masters grade -referred on a small part so mark set at a Pass
just wondered if this is usual. Just finished my Masters and got the overall grade which was a pass as I had a referral on a presentation so the overall grade can only be a pass. This seems a bit unfair. Anyone know if it is usual? If I had realised I wouldn't have wasted so much effort!

what happens if you don't finish course
What happens if you start a course but after a few weeks you get a job or you don't like the course and cancel it? Do you still have to pay the whole 2 years fees, do you have to pay the 1st year, do you pay the 1st term or something else? Also what happens about student loans and maintenance loans?

Student Loan Repayment - Advised to DD not Salary
Evening, I received a letter from the SLC this week advising that my repayments will end on the next 2 years and to consider setting up a DD or clearing the balance to ensure I don't over pay. I have no issue setting up a DD. However I wanted to know of others experience as my own experience is that the SLC is slow and…

Pre - 1998 student loan warning!!
Hi everyone. I just wanted to warn everyone about an encounter I had with Honours Student Loans giving me poor and costly advise, and make everyone aware. If you have loans from before 1998, like me, you'll have a proper loan and not this graduate tax type loan that people graduate with now. If you got your first one the…
