Hi all
My daughter has decided that Uni is not for her and she is coming home.
As she has left before Christmas she will owe 25% of her Tuition Fees and Maintenance Loan. We haven't seen either as the Maintenance Loan went straight to covering part of the accommodation.
Can anyone tell me if this money she owes will go on her student loan to be repaid at a later date when she is earning over £21k or will be become payable straight away?
I have been searching everywhere and tried to ring Student Finance England but cannot find the answer.
I know she has to find someone to take her room which is proving difficult and I am worried we are going to have to pay the fees, loan and accommodation which amounts to an awful lot of money, all in one go.
Thanks in Advance
PJ

Just one figure from now on - Total Debt as at 27.8.18 - £44,061.26.
Target to be under £40k by 31.12.18.

The tuition fee loan paid so far will be paid back at 9% of earnings over £25k (rising with earnings from 2019) - the threshold is increasing from £21k to £25k from 2018.
Maintenance loan entitlement is calculated by day (she's entitled to 1/365ths of the full loan for every day attended during the academic year from 1st September to withdrawal date) so the amount she is entitled to depends on what day the university notifies Student Finance that she has withdrawn. Anything extra received will be due straight away. The rest is repaid as per tuition loan.
Depending on the contract with the university regarding filling the accommodation, she may be liable if it says so in the contract.0 -
Thanks Ed
So to clarify it's only the part of the maintenance loan she's not entitled we have to pay back immediately and the accommodation we have to worry about right now?Just one figure from now on - Total Debt as at 27.8.18 - £44,061.26.

This happened to my daughter. She was also eligible for the rent until her accommodation had been taken by someone else as the contract was for the year.0 -

Yes she did but we had to offer a carrot, first month free. It was worth it as potentially it could have cost quite a lot
