Hi all I know I know, it's getting a bit close for this type of talk! So we are getting married abroad in march and as such have placed a budget on christmas of £50. She quickly spent this on my behalf before graciously allowing a budget extension of £20. Only one question, how do I show thoughfulness and appreciation of…

Past Christmas 'Disasters' ?
Boxing Day morning, several years ago, the power cut out. No Electricity! It turned out to be a broken cable in the Street outside my house, and the workmen were digging up the road repairing it until 6.30pm. It was a very cold day as i remember, and the Gas Central Heating Boiler wouldn't ignite without power, so it…

Christmas food on a budget
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any tips for Christmas food shopping on a budget? We are having a relatively low key Christmas with 6 of us for dinner however every year I seem to buy way too much food. I am a sucker for all the party food & nibbles from the 'finest' ranges which look so pretty but ends up costing a…

Toughest person EVER!
Ok, I am in need for ideas for my sister. SHES AWFUL TO BUY FOR. She is 37 and lives in her own home (next door to my parents!) with her flat male flatmate. She never updates her house or has anything to do with her garden. She finds them boring. She's a tom boy and is very fussy on clothes. She has very sensitive skin,…

Silver or black Christmas tree?
I've bought a small Christmas tree from Paperchase. They had sold out of the green so I decided to go for black but when I got it home and opened the box they had given me a silver one. It's ok and more traditional than black I guess but I can't make my mind up. I've put some purple and blue baubles on it and it looks ok…

Japanese paper flowers that unfurled in water
Does anyone remember having these as a child? My sister and I were kids in the 70s, and were enchanted by them. The sachet was full of tightly rolled (and kind of dehydrated) colourful bits of paper, which you then dropped into a bowl of water. They then slowly unfurled to make a beautiful floating garden. I have already…

Shop Bought Egg Whites
This weekend I'll be making some meringue type dishes as gifts and storing for Christmas party bites. My concern is the number of egg whites I'll be using and the potential waste as I have no immediate use for the yolks. Today, however, I happened across egg whites in my local supermarket and I'm wondering about these as a…

Fuel gift
I want to give my daughter something which she very much needs for Christmas - petrol for her car. I do not want to give cash because she finds spending money far too easy and is so often short of fuel at the end of the month. Does anyone know of a petrol station gift card or supermarket voucher for petrol? I have looked…

Faulty netbook from Tesco
A friend has bought two HP netbooks from Tesco as Christmas gifts for her young sons. She has discovered that one is faulty. Tesco have said they have no more stock to replace it. Any ideas what she can do to obtain a replacement, please? One little boy will be left without his gift. (Not sure if this is the right forum)

Bonsai tree gift?
I've asked difficult to buy for Granparents what they want for xmas and they've said a bonsai tree. So good at least I know. I can see them on amazon and ebay but I'm wary of getting it delivered. Where could I buy one in person? Oh, and I'm on a budget (<£25)
