Gilt Auction Treasury 4.375% 2028 - closes 12 November with HL
Received an email from HL with regard to this latest gilt offering. Possibly of interest to Isa and sipp investors keen to get hold of a short dated gilt at a clean zero commission price. Hoping it will go for a small discount in the auction.

Principality merging accounts
This morning I received a secure message which said 'thanks for closing your account' (First Steps / Buyer issue 1) which I hadn't done. That sent me into the horrible realms of thinking that I'd been hacked and money stolen. No, PBS have decided that customers can't hold issue 1 and 2 and so have merged 1 into 2 which is…

Gilt Trade Issue
In 2023 my bank offered me the opportunity to invest in low coupon gilts and index-linked gilts that were very short term, one expired in March 2024 and one in January 2026. They pointed out that the prices were attractive and I would be only liable to pay tax on the coupon but the capital gain once the Gilt expired and…

Films4U International (EIS)
I invested 5k of my hard earned money into the above company in 2020 for a 3 year period. I’ve never received my share certificates. I’m unable to get replies from them either phone or email. Tax on Investments in a General Investment Account
Hi, I should be grateful for some guidance. I find myself with £30k to invest and no available headroom in ISAs or pensions. I would like to keep things as simple as possible for tax and only realise a CGT liability on sale of investments in the GIA (and I would intend not to exceed an annual gain of £3k to keep within my…

Saving for Granddaughters School Fees
I have decided that I would like to help fund the private school fees for my granddaughter when she reaches her 11th birthday. My goal is to reach £120K over the next 6 years. I understand due to the timescales that this should be in savings rather than investments, but saving interest rates are falling. My initial thought…

How to structure Premium Bonds between lucky husband and not so lucky wife?
My husband and I both have premium bonds - he seems to win every month while I win every month or two (yes, it's extremely annoying!). We were thinking of cashing my bonds in (around £10k) and putting them into his account, but can't seem to work out if that's going to increase or decrease our odds. Anything with a…

Paying Tax on Savings Account Interest
Most of what I need to know is on this MSE page -https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/personal-savings-allowance/ I'm one of those that in the 2025/26 tax year will fall into the category that will have to pay 20% interest on some savings accounts. The page mentions "Your bank or building society will pay all savings…

Regular saver from Santander Edge account
I currently have a Santander Edge account which I solely use to fund the Edge Saver account. As I have not set up any DD I am not charged the £3 monthly fee. If I also set up their monthly regular saver I assume I still wouldn’t have to pay the £3 monthly fee? Am I correct?

Premium Bonds investment date
A family friend is using their money in Premium Bonds to part fund a property purchase. As is normal the mortgage company ( and later the conveyancing solicitor no doubt) want to see proof of funds, and that the funds have been there for a suitable period of time. The person involved bought £50K in bonds about two years…

Bitcoin for beginners
I feel like I am late to the bitcoin party. Whenever I look at forum discussions and articles about bitcoin, a certain basic knowledge seems to be assumed. It is like unravelling a ball of wool and never coming to the beginning. Or unravelling a ball of wool only to find that what I want to know is in another ball entirely…

Systemic incompetence - Aegon
We're having a torrid time trying to cash in Aegon investments into an annuity. The process has been ongoing since October, with an IFA charged to handle the transaction. Multiple documents submitted, multiple calls with 40 minute pickup times, multiple "confirmations" that Aegon has received all the necessary paperwork…
