NS&I website login problems with telephone code
Anyone else had this problem? Entering an on-screen six digit code via telephone is the second part of the two-factor authentication process to log into NS&I accounts. It's the part that usually goes wrong and prevents me from logging in. This issue has plagued me for months and has never worked consistently. There's no…

So the situation is, my wife (age 55) is not retired yet but receives carers allowance for our adult son, she will get a state pension from the child benefit years and us buying National Insurance contributions for a number of years. She has not worked in the UK. I know with a SIPP…

The £3000 annual gift limit
My mum wants to gift both of my kids £5000 now, instead of leaving this to them in her will. She keeps getting stuck on the £3000 annual tax-free limit, as everything she reads states this limit for gifts. She probably won't live another 7 years as she is now in her mid nineties. Her total estate is probably worth around…

All the House I can afford?
What would you do? Later this year I will be moving to a different area with the family. At first I had noticed that with a mortgage of say 150k we can afford very sizeable houses. This would leave us with around 3k to spare monthly after bills to invest. However, should we go for a modest 4 bed but still nice enough, we…

Vanquis 90 Day
Noticed yesterday that my Vanquis 90 Day Issue 2 account had an increase in interest rate (monthly) to 5.37%. It had been reduced to 4.89% in last couple of months. Apparently the increase took place on the 5th Feb. Does anyone know a reason for this? Seems strange.

US stocks investing advice please
Hi, I've never invested in the US before, but there is a company I'm interested in. How complicated is investing in the US? I'm with Hargreaves Lansdown and I'm aware of the W-8BEN form. The company is listed on NASDAQ, and whilst I'm certainly interested in investing, I just wondered if anyone could offer advice as to how…

Approach to Savings as Market Changes
I was thinking this morning how my approach to savings has altered in what is an environment where interest rates are now aimed on a downwards trend, compared to my approach when the opposite was the case. Up to about 12 months ago, I was very keen to lock in to fixed rate deals, keeping about 70% of my non-ISA savings…

Should I engage a Financial Advisor?
I am a complete novice at investing. In 2019 I received a legacy of about £400,000 which I invested on advice from my own bank, Santander. Since the start of this year the value of my investments has been dropping and is now less than I put in. I accept that this is probably happening to most people, but I do wonder…

Octopus Preference shares
Octopus have just launched a "preference share" issue for two windmills paying 6% interest on a closed market that will repay the shares after 3 years (if all goes well!). Each windmill is set up as a separate limited company. It appears to be windmills they already own, so in a way it seems like a general funding…

Raisin awful onboarding/admin vs. Hargreaves Lansdown
Hiya, I'm a long-time user of MSE, but never signed up for forums before; signed up just now so that I can raise this question. Basically, for the last 3 weeks I've been trying to set up a Raisin account (mostly to take advantage of a £50 cashback which has now expired). At the same time, I was also looking at HL as they…

How best to 'invest' for my son, and two nieces?
About to come into money, and I'm looking for the best options to provide a 'trust fund' (which may or may not be the right way to go!) for all three kids. One is 3, one if 4, the other is 9. Ideally I'll have £10,000 for each of them, and would like it locked away until they hit 25. What's the best way to do this that has…

Having used Caxton FX happily for a pre-paid currency card for years, I felt confident when invited to invest in their 2 year FR bond in 2022. Is it feasible to have multiple savings accounts?
Last year my mum received an unexpected inheritance and at the time my parents put the majority in NS&i and some in a high street bank savings account. At the moment with the rate drops they can get better deals elsewhere. I was contemplating looking into splitting it up into banks which aren't linked so they get the fscs…
