Pension contributions on self assessment form

Hi, I am filling out my SA for 2024-25

I made the minimum contribution of £2880 to my pension fund

My pension provider claimed the £720 I was due in tax relief.

Where do I put my contribution on the SA form?

In the "Payments to registered pension schemes (also known as PPR) where basic rate tax relief will be claimed by your pension provider (called 'relief at source'). Enter the payments and basic rate tax:" box

or

In the "
Total of any 'one-off' payments to registered pension schemes included in the 'Payments to registered pension schemes where basic rate tax relief will be claimed by your pension provider' box:

Thanks in advance

It could be just the first.  Or it could be both.

It depends if you plan on making a similar contribution in the current tax year or not.
  • I have already made the same contribution for the year 25-26

So why would you complete the one-off section 🤔

I presume you haven't bothered to read the guidance notes?

Box 1.1 Total of any ‘one-off’ payments in box 1
To help us get your PAYE tax code right, if you
have one, put the total of any one-off payments
(included in box 1) that you made in the tax year
to 5 April 2025 in box 1.1. One-off payments are
payments made in the year to 5 April 2025 that you do not intend to repeat in the year to 5 April 2026.
  • Ok I  think I understand

    I use box 1

To help me and perhaps others

You would fill out both box's if you had a repeat contribution and also a one off contribution that wasnt being repeated next year

Although the 'one off payments' section has been sod all help to Mrs Arty (who has made a lot of one offs in prior March's to use up carry forward allowances) - HMRC seem to just ignore it and give her a tax code that assumes she'll be doing the same thing next year...
