Cycle to work scheme - temporary employee
I work as a temp through an employment agency for a public sector employer in Scotland. My contract is for 5 months. I asked the agency If I'd be able to get a bike through the Cycle to Work Scheme and they said No. Just wondered if this is right? Do you have to be a permanent member of staff?

need new commuter bike
I need a new commuting bike. Currently have a Ridgeback hybrid 21 speed that I have basically trashed by not maintaining it. I don’t have a long commute and not too hilly so should I be looking at fixed gear or enclosed hub bikes as these are more resistant to neglect? I just saw a Bobbin Noodle in a shop which got me…

The £3K training bicycle
I was in the gym a few weeks ago. A bloke was trying to tell his friend that it was essential to pay £3k for a 'training bike'. Only an idiot would spend less etc etc etc. It sounded silly because 1.You felt that if a bike shop had charged him £3K for a £200 bike he would have been happy. 2.My dad used to tell me about his…

Using 7 days travelcards in a family of 2 adults, 4 kids 11-15 and 1 kid <11
Hi! I intend to go with my family to London this summer for 14 days. We are 2 adults, 4 kids 11-15 and 1 kid with 10. We will be staying in East Ham and my first thought was to buy 7 days travelcards (twice) for all, except my yongest (who is 10 and I think he can ride almost everything - except trains- freely, right?).…

Season ticket confusion
Hey, I am going to be starting my job in London from the 25th June and will be hoping to commute from Cheshunt --> St Paul's for 2 months. I went on nationalrail to see how much it would cost to commute and figured a season ticket would be cheaper. I went here to the national rail season ticket finder here…

Can I sue Megabus because the coach driver waved at me and drove past me?
I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right section, sorry if I haven't. :o Yesterday, I was supposed to be catching a Megabus coach to St.Pancras in London. I was there in good time, (half an hour before the coach was due in fact) and was stood at the exact stop it specified on my ticket and I was clearly visible to the…

Free travel beyond Birmingham New St with Season Ticket
My partner and I are looking at buying train season tickets between Derby and Birmingham. Unlike me, she'll be going a bit further, changing at Birminham New St to head out to Solihull. Oddly, the price to Birmingham and to Solihull are identical. So, there must be a certain radius around central Birmingham that's included…

Is there any other way to get a London bus registration number after an accident?
Last month I had an accident on the London bus, the driver broke down violently and I flew from the back of the bus to the front of the bus, all I could remember after is that everybody was shouting at the bus driver to stop as I was on the floor ect...and the driver did not stop and continue his journey, and I got out at…

Advice for weekday morning tube journey
Please can I ask advice from anyone on here that has experience of London public transport. I am arriving into Euston at around 8am on a weekday and I need to travel to the London Excel arena. The travel planner suggests Euston->Waterloo->Canning Town -> Prince Regent (around 50 mins). Does anyone know if I can buy my…

London station to Chelmsford with 60+ Oyster
I need to buy a ticket for part of my journey. I have the Oyster 60+ card, so can someone tell me which station do I need to buy my ticket from to get to Chelsmford? If I get on the train at either Stratford or London Liverpool street. Will buying it from Shenfield to Chelsmford be okay? My research is confusing me. I…

Any recommendation for "bike caves"
I now have a "proper" bike and two folding, electric bikes, and I need somewhere to store them all. I have looked at "bike caves" on Amazon, but the reviews are overall, very poor. I would prefer to be able to use one at the front of the house, as we don't have direct access from the front of the house to the back, and…

MTB disc brakes...? Avid Juicy 3 -> DB3
I have a ~6 year old bike with Avid Juicy 3 brakes. Last time I bled them, a lot of air seemed to get sucked in, so I guess I need to replace the seals. Also one of the concave-spherical calliper washers has split. The seal replacement kit and replacement bolts/washers are about £12 each. Yet there's the Avid DB3 front…

Appealing a Train Fine
Hello, I was recently issued a £404 fine for not being able to display a ticket when leaving my final destination train station - I had left it on the train, assuming I didn't need it anymore. Does anybody know how I can appeal this?

delayed train but journey involved two train companies
I booked a train ticket that cost over £30 and involved a Virgin train then a northern one. The northern one got cancelled and there wasn't another for over an hour so I was 62 minutes late. Can I claim a refund of the whole ticket from northern?

Using a train ticket from a different station
Just a quick one. I have purchased an anytime return train ticket from Banbury to London. I am now going to be coming home from High Wycombe, it's on the same train line and the train I would have caught from London stops there so can I use the ticket to get back to Banbury from High Wycombe or will I need to buy a new…

Cycle helmet advice
Looking at getting into cycling. It'll be mainly used for road/track (not racing track :o ) and possibly canal. Went into a local bike shop at the weekend & one of the things i looked at were helmets. The bottom row were £30 helmets & as you worked up i saw price tags of £70. The upper shelves were probably dearer than…

Brompton ~ gearing / some hills
Just pondering a Brompton for work travel due to change in circumstances (would be for railway in the morning, 6 mile ride home). I have spoken to people on a Facebook bike group so I am confident the riding distance is ok. I think the single speed 54/12 would be unsuitable, top end is fine, hills less so, ditto the 54…
