Pay direct to vet insurance
Looking at pet insurance for our new kitten. Do insurance policies generally pay direct to the vet or will I have to settle the bill personally first? If so are there schemes where the insurance pays the vet directly? Thank you

We live close to a public field which we walk around daily with our dog. People living close to the field have just got a dog and have now decided to feed their cat outside their front door. My dog, and others, have realised there is a a daily treat there and we’re unable to stop our dogs from running off the field to eat…

Advice please daughter's puppies
Hi My daughter is a single mum with two sons aged 7 and 11. She works full time shift work so I do a lot of childcare at her house. The boys have always longed for a dog and the plan was that when I retired (early 2021) I would get a puppy which would be their dog but lived with me as I would be there for it 24/7. I'm…

Don’t know what to say
Hi everybody. I live in an over 60s development, about 30 of us. One of the occupants had to have her dog put down. It was fairly sudden and he was 12. I’m a cat person and 12 isn’t old for a cat but I’m not sure about dogs. The dog was lovely, very friendly, gentle and didn’t bark very often. Everybody in the court loved…

Getting the Cat into the Cat Carrier
My cat needs to go to the vet for her yearly healthcheck and vaccinations. I am going to make an appointment for her on Thursday. However, the last time we tried to take her she turned into a complete wildcat. We used plug in Feliway and the cat carrier was sitting in the kitchen for a week for her to get used to it but as…

My partner’s dog is 15yo now and has a lot of health problems, including suspected Cushing’s syndrome, arthritis, stomach and thyroid problems. She’s also had urinary incontinence for years. Indestructible chewy toy recommendations please
Morning all I've recently acquired a lovely 2 yr old little dog and we're getting along famously with training and so on. However he demolishes (and then swallows the bits) of every toy I buy him. We can still use the toys, even when they've got holes in them, for throwing in the garden etc but when I want him to go on his…

Dog bit postman through letterbox
Hi all, I have a German shepherd dog and have had him for 6 and a half years. Today whilst delivering the post, a new postman put the letters through the letterbox and my dog bit his finger. I expect he was trying to grab the post which he does all the time. This has never happened before and the postman's fingers would…

My boy, an almost two year old mini dachshund, has just been diagnosed with multiple allergies. Planning to welcome a Kitten into our Family
After several years of my daughter asking for a cat, we have decided to welcome one into our family in the near future. We had cats in my family growing up, but things seem to have changed a lot since then! There was no pet insurance, scratch posts or fluffy beds! Well at least not in our house, it was cardboard boxes,…

Can you recommend a retractable lead.
I've gone through more retractable leads than I care to think about. Wife bought yet another from a German supermarket last week, yesterday on the third outing the lead failed - pulled the lead out of the handle. Anyone recommend a descent. Before anyone suggests training the dog not to pull, he is very strong willed and a…

Pet insurance - pre-existing conditions
I have a question about pre-existing medical conditions in relation to pet insurance. We have a two years old German Shepherd who has had a couple of stomach problems. After the first (campylobacter, probably from something he ate) the insurers said they would not cover any future gastro issues. The second time the vet…
