Cat proof carpet
My cat has a lovely scratch post, it’s big, it’s solid. He likes it, he uses it. Sadly he also likes the hallway carpet! It was a bit worn from a previous cat in some areas, he’s finishing it off!!! Its 100% wool Berber. That’s the sort of carpet I like, that natural material, close short carpet. Is there any carpet that’s…

Over the Counter Acid Reflux Medicine?
My 11 year old Lab started making a hiccup sound a few days ago, and was bringing up his food. We saw a Vet. She wasn't 100% sure of the cause without further investigation but thought it was a Gastric problem, probably acid reflux and give us Zitek (cimetidine), which was very expensive per tablet, but I don't mind if it…

Pet insurance for new puppy
We're getting our puppy at end of month. From when should I insure him? Right now, or wait until we get him? I was looking at PetPlan are they the best bet?

How Do You Complain About a Vet?
Quick summary. Our dog, Patch, had Addison's Disease that meant two tablets every day. In 2016 the vet tells us one tablet is now no longer being made and we need her to get an injection every 30 days. With blood tests etc this set us with a monthly cost we agreed to pay at £87 a month, Ouch! A few days before the first…

Vets negligence
Hi I am wondering if any of you could advise whether we would have a case for negligence against a vets surgery and whether they do no win no fee deals for this kind of complaint . Basically my son's dog was rushed to the vets as an emergency after investigations it was decided the best option was unfortunately to put him…

Where do you buy your clumping cat litter?
We have usually always bought our cat litter from Morrisons but for the last year so it has been a nightmare with constant stock problems, smaller bags and hiked prices. Can anyone share experiences with brands/suppliers they or their cats like? The ones from Wilko and Tesco look ok, but this stuff is starting to get so…

Fussy eater (dog) ?
My 10 month old dog has suddenly decided he doesn't want to eat his food. 3 days ago he just sniffed it and walked away. I thought he might come back to it but no. Just sniffs and walks off. In every other respect he is the same as usual. Drinking, playful and still wants to eat treats. He eats treats fine so I don't think…

Cat first time out since move- now missing. Feel sick
My 11 year old beautiful cat has been shut inside for just over 2 weeks. This morning I released him because he was absolutely wailing and trying to escape and it felt cruel to keep him cooped up. Although an amazingly loving affectionate cat, he is fiercely independent and likes to be outside. He slowly wandered in the…

Neighbour’s noisy dogs
Please move if this is in the wrong place. TL/DR; Neighbours have noisy dogs and I’m not sure whether to say anything. Hi everyone, just after a little advice in more of a ‘what would you do’ sense than a ‘watch how my temper goes from 0-60 real quick’ sense. I’ll try and keep it brief - it concerns neighbours dogs and…

Need everything quick for new rescue dog
Dear Forum, please let me pick your brains. This Saturday we’re meeting a rescue dog for the first time. Due to his circumstances, if we are deemed to be a good match, we would be picking him up already the following day. That means I have to get fully kitted out in less than a day! Where should I go which doesn’t break…

Pet insurance renewal is it legal?
Hi I am with Tesco for my pet insurance, really happy with the level of cover but it’s gone up by 50% for my multi pet policy. I spoke to Tesco and they said it because my “new customer discount“ has ended and that’s the reason for the increase. I ran a quote at Tesco and it came up as the cheaper price from 12 months ago.…

Pet flea and worming treatment
As a pet servant of several cats this is a time of year where flea treatments are at the forefront of my mind as my furs all go out and I'm no fan of their supporting band the Fleatles... There are loads of options including off the shelf, vet prescribed and even plans through chains such as Vets4Pets where you pay a…

Bilious Vomiting Syndrome
Our old Lab has this. We feed him little and often, and he's been on different types of meds and food but nothing is working. During the day he is fine, but every night, after he's been asleep for a few hours, between midnight and 3am he starts making a vomiting noise and brings up clear/yellow bile. Has any other dog…

Cats - Help!!!
My cats are tearing my furniture and carpet to shreds, despite the fact they have a cat scratcher which they only use when they feel like it. My sofa has been ruined, my carpets have been pulled up, and no matter how many times I shout, they keep doing it. What am I supposed to do?

Elodea - bottom or shelf?
I have a pond about 3.5m x 2.3m in size, it has 40+ mature goldfish, with pump and filter system. Given that what is the best position for elodea (Canadian pond weed)? On the bottom or on a shelf - maybe 0.25m deep? On the bottom - the fronds will spread out and up - but can they be drawn into the pump? While, being on a…

Malaseb-Cost 400% mark up at vet!!
I have an old dog who is reacting to food he has often had in the past (chicken). I have changed it now. He has itchy sores on his skin 'hot spots' and his ears and paws are sore too. Took him to vet today and had to pay £63 for 250ml Malaseb - its between £23 and £10.80 online with a prescription! I have not used it yet…

Cleaning dogs teeth for bad breath
Can anyone recommend the best solution for cleaning a Labradors teeth (4 years) for bad breath.. I'm not sure whether to use a brush, finger brush, or a chew type toy for teeth in which the dog cleans his own teeth. Also a toothpaste if appropriate. I use the dental sticks from Aldi already.

Escape Proof Dog Harnesses
There are several escape proof harnesses on the market, but some I think are not very well built. My dog is a Labrador cross and needs a large very strong harness. Most of the escape proof harnesses have three straps going around the body instead of the normal two straps. They have one strap around the neck, one around the…

Where did you get your dog from ?
Hi We're considering getting a dog to join our family. I have two teenage children & two cats so the dog would need to be able to cope with this. I've no special desire to get a particular pedigree breed or fancy mixed breed. I would prefer a puppy or young dog as I have a boisterous 14 year old daughter so something that…
