Kinder to cat flea treatment
I have always used Advantage for our cats. Currently we have just one 6 yr old house cat. I understand she may still be prone to fleas so diligently treat her monthly. I know she feels under the weather for 24hrs post treatment and I understand why. She also gets very distressed going to the vets. So my question is, does…

Trying to adopt a dog - any advice?
Hi everyone. Me and my partner are looking to adopt a dog. We prefer to adopt than buy from a breeder since, aside form the cost, we don't really agree with the principle of buying dogs when there are many homeless dogs in shelters. We have put in a few applications to adopt some of the dogs at our local rescue centre but…

Guinea Pig
My daughter has collected various pets over the years; some have passed away and I've inherited others. Her latest is a guinea pig which I said I'd have nothing to do with. She's working away from home for 3 days and the little blighter is lonely so I've brought him downstairs. She lets him roam in her bedroom; the room's…

Money Moral Dilemma: Should my housemate repay me for looking after her cat?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks... My housemate adopted an older cat. I didn't agree as we're both busy people, and told her I wouldn't be responsible for its care. But I ended up looking after it while she was away, and began buying it food, toys etc. I bonded with the cat and, now my housemate's moving out,…

Diabetic dog food recommendations
My 12 year old dog has just been diagnosed today and is starting on insulin. The vet recommended the Royal Canin diabetic food but it is very expensive and the treatment is not going to be cheap! Just wondered if anybody with a diabetic dog uses a different high protein food that is not so pricey? Raw isn't an option.

House cats escaping out front door - tips?
How do you prevent house cats from slipping past you at the front door? We are moving from a house with a porch to a house without. They often linger and greet us near the door as we walk in, so I'm a little anxious they may escape as we will not have the secondary door as a precaution. I can imagine coming in and out the…

Male Labrador licking, nibbling around genital area.
The vet thinks it might be Atopic dermatitis, an allergy to something in the environment. In his case I suspect it is when nettles or ivy brush against his underside but no-one is sure. He's on a good diet and treated for parasites and the vet seems to think he's in good condition. However, he has a few bald patches…

After a relationship breakdown my ex partner has kept our dog. When collecting my belongings back in June for storage he asked if I was takin her then as she was pining for me. Does anyone here foster guide dogs?
We’ve been accepted, home checked and have done part 1 of 2 training sessions. I’m very excited about the whole thing - we’re not able to have a dog of our own as we both work full time hours so this seems perfect. Plus you are helping out a really worthwhile cause at the same time. Does anyone here do this, and if so I’d…

8 week old pup in touring caravan?
Hi. We are collecting our new cocker spaniel when hes 8 weeks old and will have had his 1st jab. Five days later we have already booked a caravan weekend away. I realise it's not safe to have him outside yet and should certainly be kept away from dogs before he's had his 2nd jab, which I understand is to be at 12 weeks. So…

Cheapest place to buy guinea pig accessories
We are planning on getting our 9 year old a couple of guinea pigs for xmas (this has been asked for and discussed since the beginning of the year so not a rash decision). We have a small dog that (give or take) costs us about £50pm so I was a bit shocked to hear that the pigs could cost about the same! With this in mind I…
