Dog insurance for existing "ailment"?
Does anyone know of / have experience with pet insurance for a puppy that has a condition we know about? Basically his lower canines are digging into the roof of his mouth so he needs to get them filed down and have crowns fitted. I know some "lifetime" policies can cover existing conditions but just wondering if anyone…

Pet health care plans discount on treatments
Hi there does anybody know what are consumer rights are in the UK if you decide that you do not want your pet to have regular annual booster vaccinations that cost £85. the surgery I said that is not taken off of our monthly amount as it is our choice ( as other pet owners there had also asked) I don't believe that can be…

Vet won't do ultrasound at the same as other treatment
So we've an ongoing poorly cat that seems to have a UTI. We aren't satisfied she's getting sufficient treatment, so they've suggested sending off a urine sample to a lab to get better analysis, and then doing an ultra sound under sedation. It'll be about £500 overall. The cat is due to go under for spaying this week, and…

Woman wants abandoned cat back
So this is a long story. Stick with me here! We discovered a heavily pregnant cat and ten week kitten living in under a neighbour's shed during the heatwave this year. We did our best to find out from Facebook if it belonged to anyone, we had no takers. We kept an eye on it initially at night in the garden to see if it…

Cat was euthanised by mistake
Hello, I don't want to give too many details at this stage but could really do with some advice. Recently I took my cat to be treated at a vet, the vet went to euthanise another animal but put mine to sleep by mistake. Upon further investigation this appears to be a systemic issue, with the vet distraught and clearly…

Dog barking
I was just wondering if anybody has had any experience regarding reporting a barking dog to the council and their subsequent response. Just to give a little background information, my current next door neighbours acquired a young dog at the beginning of this year. They regularly go out and leave the dog inside the house…

Neighbourhood cat messing on our lawn!
Hi everyone, hoping someone could give me some advise! We've had a few lovely new cats in our area over the last year or so, but we're finding that one of them is using our lawn as it's litter tray. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can stop this happening, we haven't been able to identify exactly which cat it is,…

Dog's odd behaviour
Our 4 yr old border terrier is acting weird. She is staring at her blanket or the carpet when she is resting. She flinches every now and again. We have searched her for fleas, washed all bedding and cleaned carpets etc. She has regular flea tablet. Just can't work out what is going on. She's not scratching. Don't know what…

Advice wanted
Hi, on the 16th September my female dog was caught mating so I phoned the vet straight away and was advised to make an appointment as soon as my dog was off heat. I did this the following week and got baby in for her first jab (Not sure if it was Azilin) Second day she went back for her final jab. Today, 14th November my…

Do I own a dog "adopted" from a rescue centre
A few years ago I got a dog from a well-known rescue home. They never used the word "new owner" when referring to me, but instead referred to me as adopting the dog. I do not plan to sell the dog or anything like that, but I have always wondered whether I actually ever legally own my dog. I paid £100 for the dog and this…

Getting a cat with no cat flap?
Hi I am buying a ground floor flat in a new development. I mainly work from home and live alone, but on Saturday I work a 14 hour shift out of the house. Is it realistic to have a cat and letting it in and out when I am in? I know some people make it work but sounds a bit iffy to me. I am going to request putting a cat…

Fireworks, how to calm a dog down
That dreaded time of year for most pet owners is approaching and I want to get prepared early, as my 12 year old dog is not good with fireworks. My vet has said that they can give her a sedative for a few days, just to get her through the worst of it, but we all know, it last more than 1 night. My dog walker said that…

Bedtime routine

Home checks for adopting cat and a messy home
Bluntly my home is a bit of mess and a bit chaotic. I keep loads of boxes which I use for eBay sales and apart from the garage there is nowhere to store them. And in the garage they deteriorate quickly due to damp. And there is all the usual stuff which accumulates with storage unavailable. Would this deter any local cat…

Cat vomiting / regurgitating but vets can't work out why
Has anyone had a cat be sick around 4-6 times a month with no explanation? He is very long-haired so sometimes it's obvious furballs but other times it's not with undigested food in there. He got bloodwork done and levels were all fine. so far we've tried removing dry food from his diet (which would often come up in the…
