In the meantime we are doing fine, living on my pension and savings I want to think about options for the cash element of 25%. Yes we could be sensible and invest £20,000 year on…

Help on "Court of Protection"
Good morning everyone. Reading a number of threads here, there have been some advice regarding "Court of Protection". Both my parents have been diagnosed with dementia, sadly this coming week they will leave their home of some 45 plus years (under the Mental Health Act) to spent the rest of their days in a dementia…

Panic Button
I am writing this post on behalf of my Grandma, who has recently had a fall. We are all a bit worried, and want to ensure that if it ever happens in the future, she won't be left alone until someone next visits. I believe that you can get a panic button that is either attached to a necklace, or worn on the wrist, so that…

I've just heard from a friend that the Freedom Pass, for over 60's was extended so we can travel at peak times (before 9am) since the 1st April 2009. That means I've spent over £75 extra on travel, as I didn't know! :hello: Do you think I will be able to claim this back? Thanks

Any point in applying for jobs if over 60 female 65 male
I wonder if others have any experience of this. A female friend said they phoned the council who were advertising a job who (the council) said yes still apply. It is clear that they can't discriminate but what is the point as it was obvious they wanted someone younger?

When to apply for your free bus pass
Do you apply when you have reached, or past, your actual 60th birthday or before in anticipation of the birthday? My friend has been told not to apply before their birthday which seems wrong as they admit it takes a week or two to get the pass out:confused:

Power of attorney - necessary?
I've been looking into this with reference to my mum. Due to her increasingly frail health, her signature changes all the time and she now has bouts of confusion. I can see her having problems accessing her own money due to her signature problems. (She is unable to operate a cashpoint and has a passbook account instead).…

Loan to granddaughter
Hi, would it be ok to make a loan to my granddaughter of several thousand pounds, to help her up the housing ladder. My idea is to alter my will to leave her the same amount which would then pay the loan off back to my estate. I am fortunate to have enough of a pension to not need the cash which is lying in a savings…

Retirement in Ireland
Hi. I'm a new user of this site. My husband and I retired to Southern Ireland about five years ago. We have modernised an old cottage which has taken most of what little money we had to start with! We have about £10,000 in a UK bank account which, of course, is now paying hardly any interest. We don't expect to need to use…

Problem with old will
They have eventually given me a copy of my uncles will, after much nagging and nagging. My uncle always told me that his estate was to be split between my sister and myself and she was the executor. I was fine with that as she is the clever one. I did think it was funny when they phoned to say that I was executor. But now…
