RIAS experience anyone

Options
I want to compare rias with saga for car insurance but cannot find any decent reviews. Does anyone here have personal experience of rias? Saga looks pretty good but some of the online reviews have put me off a bit

  • Not for car insurance but I had RIAS for my buildings and contents insurance until I moved here. They were realy good when my freezer broke down,I received a cheque within 48 hours of claiming over the phone.
The premiums were realy good too.

I had my car insurance with Saga a few years back. The premiums started to increase so I went to RIAS who were much cheaper. However after a couple of years their premiums started to increase also, so I then moved to Castle cover (similar to RIAS) who were much cheaper.
I think this is a ploy with all of them, ensnare you with a cheap quote and then gradually increase so they are uncompetitive and hope you do not notice.
I guess I will soon be moving back to SAGA and start the whole process again.

We are due to renew soon, only contents as we are leasehold. The quote from saga is £67.3 and from rias £73. Rias have already rang and offered to reduce their quote. It really is down to the BEST company for us and we have to decide. Help!!!

It is important to get a good company as barclays were absolutely hopeless just when we needed them

Rias now they quoted me dearer than another car insurance but reduced it but there was a odd 30p in it and i asked him to round it off no way would he do it. Anyway I changed my car and had 3months left to run 2months of payments and 1 free when i phoned they wanted £50 to change my policy and would not deal, I think Saga gave me a quote ready for when my car Insureance runs out and with the new car it was pounds less than Rias's reduced quote but Rias reckons my new car is a higher group not with most of the other quotes i had. My home insureance was way to much with Rias and a friend recomended Nat West for a quote so i phoned them loads of questions like are you a customer NO have you any dealings with this bank at all No sir How did you hear about us then? Recommended :D the best quote i could have ever had and to think it was the last place i would have gone too.

I went from Saga to RIAS, then they became really expensive so I went back to Saga who seem to be around the lowest quotes every year.

Not car, just contents now. M and s came in tops for car insurance at £140. Fantastic with road tax at £35 and I got 83 to the gallon yesterday. £36 to fill the car up and it lasts a month (I do a lot of shopping via bike). I am not too proud to own a dinky economical car

I have decided at last on contents and have settled for rias underwritten by fortis, who have an excellent track record for dealing with claims. The price is fine and includes legal and valuables away from home etc. Contents only at £89. It will be in their own interest to be competative next year or I will move again, I have no loyalty with any particular company. I must say that I was impressed by rias`s proactivity in getting back to me. Nothing from saga and barclays was absolutely hopeless the one time we needed them

Always shop around. Just because a company claims to 'specialise' in over 50s or whatever does not mean a thing. It's a marketing technique that's all.

I've found them competitive on household insurance and (bar a minor hiccup, soon sorted) good with a claim.

I've found them uncompetitive on motor insurance - possibly because my policies have always included younger drivers as well as me/mrsdzug

Conclusion - if they are a good price you won't go far wrong.
