Morning everyone Just after any advice on the installation of a central heating system. It’s for my grandmother who lives in a village with no mains gas. Typically people in the village have either LPG or oil tanks installed to power their central heating systems. Being a fairly old property, and her previous relunctance…

Combi + Delayed Hot Water to Bathroom
Hi, just had a Baxi Duotec 28 installed in a bungalow. Seems fine. The distance between the boiler in the kitchen and and the bathroom is about 20 feet, though I guess the pipes go up into the loft, etc. It takes about 30-40 seconds and a lot of water until it starts to get hot. I supposed there's cold water in the pipe. I…

Calor pilot won't stay lit
Two month old Calor butane cabinet heater, everything looks clean and nothing is loose. At first it lit no problem, then it started taking multiple strikes from the ignition to get going, and now it just won't start at all without me gently blowing on the flame and/or rocking the cabinet gently back and forth. Even once it…

House not heating up like it used to
Hey folks Any advice or help appreciated. My elderly parents got gas installed last July and it was great. Winter came and the thermostat easily hit 22/23 regularly. This year though the heating is struggling to even get to 20 for some reason. Anybody any ideas what it could be or what I could try? I suspect my dad might…

Ovo Warning Economy 10 - Smart Meters are Incompatible and display incorrect prices
This is a stark warning for other Ovo Economy 10 users. When I logged onto my account a few weeks ago they had started offering Smart Meters to those with 2 meters (previously unavailable). Booked installation for this week, completed on 29/11/17. It was a very cold day, so soon discovered our night storage heaters weren't…

price comparison sites can be misleading
i have recently reviewed my energy costs and find the whole process misleading. on moneysupermarket.com the savings were neglidgeable and correct - on martin lewis the money saving champion the actual costs per kwh were higher than what i pay but it was claimed i would save 250 quid per year - how!

Replacing a Myson UFH actuator head.
Hi there, We have one zone of our UFH not getting warm despite its thermostat calling for heat. Its actuator head on the UFH manifold is closed all the time. All the other zones are OK. I don't know what's wrong but it could be the actuator head, or a jammed pin beneath it? I've read that if I take off the actuator head…

Log burner smells
Hi, is there a way to check joints & seals on a burner & flue. I am getting burnt wood smells in the room. "more than there should be" In the same room there are 3 detectors smoke/Co/heat & these are fine with no tripping, but i assume there must be a leak. Any suggestions for checking joints. I need something like using…

Chimney problem
Hi everyone, I moved into an older house and have a gas fire with a brick surround and hearth on the chimney breast. We wish to get this removed (gas has now been capped off), and the hole where the fire was to be boarded up and plastered so we can fit a flat back electric fire suite. There is air flow in the chimney…

lodger and heating
Hi! I'm sharing the house with a resident landlady and her daughter. Before I moved in, we agreed that the radiator would be on in the evening and morning (I didn't think to ask about the temperature, assuming it would have to least be enough to warm up the room). However, she only set it at about 17 C -17.5 C and for a…

Which heating source?
So I have just moved into a rented studio and I´m getting very worried about my energy bills. I have a store heater and a economy 7 meter. I also have an oil filled radiator. I´m really unsure about a few things. If I have an economy seven meter do I have to use and economy seven tariff or can I just have a regular tariff…

SMART METERS -Are they a CON ?
Hi We just wondered how others consumers are managing the current pressures from Electricity supply companies to move to smart meter based systems ? We are with 1st Utility who are offering free meters -however we feel there is a major catch ! If like us you are on a dual rate meter ie a significant saving is applied to…

Condensate Pump not working
We recently had our combi boiler replaced under the government scheme and had an oil condensing boiler fitted. This meant that we had to have a pump fitted to remove the condensate. We had a manufacturers pump fitted inside the boiler (Firebird) and it seems to normally run all the time, possibly because it is a small pump…

Heating with Boiler Stove
Hi All, We currently have a boiler stove heating the hot water tank and radiators. It isn't really up to the job, as the underfloor heating we have in one room I think takes a lot of heat out of the system. There are only three radiators. The hot water tank is also an immersion heater so we can top the heat up for a bath.…
