Storage Heaters
I am thinking of replacements for a couple of old 3kw heaters. Fischer have 1.9kw equivalent heaters. Why can't I get a price for these without getting a home visit by the company?. Can anyone tell me the cost of 1.9kw heater fitted. Thanks

Communal heating...super expensive...
Just moved into a new build where the hot water and heating (underfloor - water based) is supplied centrally by a communal supplier (Loka Energy). As it's a smart meter you can monitor usage and cost at anytime... It seems to be crazy expensive...the standing charge is just shy of £1/day as well as a charge of 7p/kWh but…

Solar panels
A company has offered to buy my mums solar panels,(about 1/2 of what she paid for them) she will still get her cheaper electric and be payed for the energy she produces . So effectively she has another 18 years on her FIT contract but the warranty is only for another 6 so if she sells them now they will then take over the…

What am I doing wrong?
Hi, We've recently had a multi fuel stove fitted, and I was looking forward to having a toasty warm room. But this is yet to happen :( I've seen online numerous times people saying they can get their room so warm that it's too warm, but I must say our room is definitely not that warm! We've tried burning just logs, just…

Switching to Oil...
Hi All, After years of trouble with LPG heating we have decided to switch to oil Central heating (we need a new boiler anyway...) . As we will be new to oil in just wondering what size tank you would recommend and if any brands of tank are better than others? To save costs we will be putting the tank in ourselves ( pouring…

New to hatched house with open fire - which fuel?
Hi, I think the title about says it all. We are currently burning logs but "worry" about sparks so are playing with "hotties" and wondering if anyone has any thoughts re using a smokeless fuel or other? We have no access to gas and there is already background oil fired central heating installed. Any thoughts will be very…

Moving from LPG to Oil
Hi, Moved into a property in June with 1400L LPG tank supplying two boilers for different parts of the house. The combi is 15 years old and the standard boiler died boxing day (20+ years old). Looking to stay in the property for 10 years plus so would it be financially beneficial to move to oil? Everyone is telling us so,…

Log Stove sizes
I am looking for a traditional looking Log stove (with a boiler) that heats a small cottage room and the boiler part to feed into a (not yet purchased) thermal store. I have used the calculation of 1kW for every 14 cubic metres which equals 2.6kW. The room has two doors that are left permanently open so we guess about 5kW…

What is going on with comparisons?
OK....Martin!:j I need advice. I follow your rules and view comparison sites and get lots of "You can save £336 on fuel" emails.:rotfl: And this is WITH my usage details being logged into the sites. However, I actually followed 2 links through U switch telling me I could save over £300 in two cases, yet when I sat and…

Boiler not heating rads properly
Hi MSE, The bolier is an old GlowWorm Micro 40FF in a bungalow I moved into a few months ago. Usually what happens is: It comes on but only heats the rads partially - even with thermostat set well up. I turn it off using the thermostat, wait a minute, then turn it back on with the thermostat. It comes on again and heats…

Help-Link Appalling Service
I have made the error of booking a new boiler with Help-Link I should have used my instinct when the quote was given to me and in the blink of an eye the quote was reduced by 5% Help-Link took my deposit and arranged for the boiler man to come a week later. They called me 3 times to confirm I would be in at the time they…

Expected RHI Payments Misrepresentation??
We had an air source heat pump installed last November, having been convinced that it would be cost effective given the reduction in gas bills and the RHI payments. The RHI payment cap at the time of my order was £554pa and it was written in my contract that there would be "RHI payments of £554pa for 7 years". Quite clear…

Problems with installing a woodburner
We have converted a long, low stable block with a flat roof to a house. The heating is by a solid fuel Rayburn which is great. However, this has the most enormous, ugly, factory chimney. I think the only reason our miserable NIMBY neighbours have not moaned about it is that they cannot really see it. With the Rayburn we…

Meter Reading responsible?
Who responsibility is it to read the meter? The supplier or the customer? Over the years this has changed from the supplier doing regular readings to the customer being asked to do them? Does anyone know the law or regulations on meter reading? Cheers Chris.

New Boiler woes
In December we had a new Worcester Bosch external heatslave 25/32 combi boiler fitted to our 3 bed semi to replace a 20 year old boiler. We took the opportunity to purchase a new boiler as we were having an extension built and the old boiler was beginning to go wrong. We had 500 litres of oil delivered on 22nd December…

Help! 247Rescue not regulated
I've had a nightmare with 247rescue and just cancelled everything. They are saying they can take a long time to give me back money I've paid for a chemical inhibitor I never had and they intend to take another months payment for a service that they never provided due to all the small print. When I said I wanted to make a…

Pellet Boiler woes
Hello all, I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with the consumption of my pellet boiler. For the month of January I used 960kg of Verdo Premium pellets. We live in a 10 year old detached house with an EPC heat demand of 15,600kwh per year (including DHW). Over the last 3 years we have average 6.5 tonnes of pellets per…

Avoid 24/7 Home Rescue. Liars and cheats.
I was persuaded to transfer 12 policies from D&G and so wish I hadn’t. First call out - a tiny nut was broken. Condemned the boiler with tape and said part obsolete and needed a new boiler. Tracked down part myself for £20 and had it installed for £50. Next call out to another rental property. My tenants have no heat or…

Dowling stove anyone
Anybody got a Dowling stove multi fuel or woodburner. We are thinking of getting one but wanted some reports of the stoves by actual users on here. Have looked at what stove and the reports seem good. Particularly interested in the controllability of them, ease of use, the doors are not fully airtight, is that correct/ So…
