Apparently we need two pieces of work done (according to British Gas) 1. There's no bonding between the Electric and water supply 2. We still have the really old meter box (well 2 of them as my house used to be 2 flats years ago). This needs to be replaced with a new one. Got a quote from BG £530 for the Meter Change £170…

Block paving sinking in parts
I have a drive block paved in the grey tegular (I think it is called that anyway). Anyway in certain parts it has sunk slightly and I was wondering what the cost would be of taking it up and having it relayed? Do they charge so much per metre for the labour? I am assuming the same blocks can be reused? Thanks

I want an extension
I have been considering for some time building an extension on my mid-terraced two bedroom Edwardian house. Hemlock for exterior door?
We're in the market for a new front door. I want to try and get a 1930s period style to match the era of the house and also others on the street as half have original or repro ones that blend in nicely. A lot of the door supply websites seem to have pine or hemlock wood doors. Is hemlock a good material for an external…

Static Shocks since Laminate Fitted
I had laminate flooring with underlay fitted in my new build flat on Friday. Since then I've been getting static shocks when touching anything metal, such as door handles and switches on electrical sockets. From what I've read it's to do with the underlay being a good insulator, and so there is a static buildup. Since…

Different opinions from plumbers - who is right?
Hi there. We've recently noticed some problems with our heating system and, having spoken to a couple of plumbers, we're none the wiser as to what the answer is. We have a back boiler system with hot water cylinder and the main problem is that we have no hot water when the central heating is off. If we move the thermostat…
