Have you tried standing the bottom jug in hot water and filling the top jug with icy cold water? I think something like that (the bottom jug expands slightly to release the top jug) might do the trick.;)

or maybe putting a little oil or washing up liquid around the rim...? Dunno to be honest. The hot water/ice solution sounds like a winner.

can you get a small bore drinking straw down inside ? if so, insert straw and blow like a blowing machine!!!! may help reduce the vacuum effect, this works for me when I get my plastic containers stuck:) HTH

I'd go with the hot soapy water/ice method. Nb add salt to the ice to make it even colder!

get two people to pull, you hold top jug second person hold bottom jug and pull. used to work when we had bowls stuck together!

The bottom Jug was probably still warm from washing up when it was stored away and the slight contraction when cooling off to room temp is enough to 'trap' the other jug to it [don't think it's a vacuum thing as there should still be gaps between the jugs].
Pop both in the freezer for 30 min then take out and stand the bottom jug in a basin of hot[ish] water for a few minutes ... remove and then ..."get two people to pull, you hold top jug second person hold bottom jug and pull"... if nessesary.
Learn to laugh at yourself ... everyone else has:rotfl:
