My thrifty living twenty something diary...
 :) I am a longterm MSE forum'er but have set up a new account so as to keep my privacy about my new situation. I am in my twenties and am going through a divorce. Fortunately I was entitled to legal aid... I have long term health problems but manage to work part time. I am now a lodger with a super landlady and my…

Thank you, MSE!
Thanks to your advice, I have just saved £148.78 on my car insurance, just by spending half an hour on the comparison sites:T Feeling rather pleased with myself, I then phoned the AA and told them my breakdown cover was too expensive, and I needed to trim some fat off the cost. I was immediately connected to their…

Saving 3300 diary
Hi I don't know if anyone will be interested in reading this but I have a huge challenge and need somewhere to track my progress, I thought MoneySavingExpert would be the best place for it. The bad news is my partner is moving to Australia any day now (as soon as his visa comes through) for work and has asked me to go with…

I've been lurking in the background for the last couple of weeks and I thought it might be nice for all of you who so kindly share your amazing deals to get some positive feedback. :) You have made christmas possible for me and I can't thank you enough. I've been a bit nervous about posting and I don't want to give anyone…

Insider Card at Showcase Cinemas
I went to the cinema last night to see the new Harry Potter film in 3D. Myself and two friends each had an Insider Card which is free to apply for and gets you into a film for half price on a Tuesday, so what would have cost us £30 (3 x 3D tickets) cost just £15 - so a massive 50% saving!! I would encourage all savers like…

Amazed!
Hello everyone; I thought I'd outline what I've been up to lately, this site has proved itself time after time and has turned me from a "can't be bothered it's only a few pence" type of bloke into a "Cup of Coffee, search for bargains before doing anything else" type of bloke inside a couple of weeks! After reading the…

Losing Money Saving?
I've just read the bit on savings stating if my interest rate is lower than that of inflation, my savings are losing me money. So what should I do? Take my money out of my savings account and stick it under the mattress? Surely then I'll be even worse off as I'm not receiving any interest at all!! Decrease inflation?…

How much have you really saved?
I love a bargain, it's true, but the hysteria around saving money is really getting quite ridiculous. These days when i'm going to spend a lot of money on a product then i will proportionately spend much more time to research it and find the best product and ultimately the best price. At the end of the day it's more…

Minimum Regular Savings?
I want to start saving seriously but can't afford to save much at all. Just wondered what the minimum was that people are saving. I know every little helps as they say but it's hard when there's not much available to save.

What do you think of my moneysaving plan? opinions please.
I live at home with my dad and my only bill is the food shopping I do every week (this is my way of contributing). So I plan to live as though I was on JSA. Only drawing out £200 a month to spend (this will just cover food and any odd treat I want) and pretend I don't have the rest and just chook it in a savings account.…

Is saving worth it?
From what i have been hearing, saving money doesnt seem to be worth it anymore. We are heading towards more quantative easing (they can tell me it isnt all they want, but it is), higher inflation and banks being able to default at any moment...is saving worth it? Wouldnt it be better to invest the money in something to…

Student, trying to save as much as possible!
I think this is my first thread, I made this account a while ago but never got round to using it. I've had a lot happen over the past few years, and my finances and spending control is something I want to get down to a T. I want to try and create a nice amount of savings so I have money for emergencies. This is what my…
