Stamp Duty Question please
My son is buying a flat. He has been renting up till now. However, a few years ago he inherited 1/4 of a cottage, which was sold & he is using his share of the proceeds as deposit on his flat. So my question is - is he still a first time buyer? thus exempt from stamp duty up to £300k . Or does briefly owning a share of the…

Renting out privately or via an agent
Can someone give me the brief pros and cons of renting out a home privately vs using a management agent? A family member is considering renting out their home whilst they live abroad for a year and they think it's a simple task to do it privately and get one of the family to manage it for them. I'm not so sure that's the…

Is this planning approval in1974
The house we own had an extension (less than 3meters) in 1974. We have the original plans with the stamp from the council on. Is the stamp approval of the plans? (Although today you can build an extension less than 3 meters) Or is the stamp, to say they checked the extension?

Survey report points - maintenance jobs?
We arranged a Level 2 survey to be carried out and the report came back very positive; the property is structurally sound and nothing is falling apart or requires urgent, major work. There were a few minor issues and I'm wondering if I would be right in thinking that all the things below are just things we should absorb…

Freehold house with leasehold driveway: what could go wrong?
I've recently viewed a house to buy. It's one of a block of 4 new build houses, each with their own freehold, but there is a shared driveway which is leasehold (999 years) and for which the freeholder is a major land/estates owner in the area. I'm aware of the pitfalls of leaseholds in general but what sort of thing can go…
