Cataracts & Glaucoma question
I just turned 50 last year and I was told I had advanced cataracts in my right eye. It was then discovered about the high pressure in the same eye so that somewhat shelfed my plan to have cataract surgery because it complicates matters having glaucoma. Anyway, I now have drops and a diuretic to take until I next return to…

Paleo without needing to loose weight.
From several sources that I trust I have read that Paleo way of eating offers health benefits to such as me with chronic auto-immune conditions. Sounds great, but pretty much every article or book I see make a huge play of weight loss. Having spent the last 2 years going from being under weight to healthy weight where I do…

Biodegradable dental tape anywhere?
I've seen biodegradable bamboo floss but not tape. Floss gets shredded and stuck between my teeth. (I suppose at least it would biodegrade somewhere along the line, rather than bits of plastic fibres floating through my digestive system and eventually into the water system.)

Braces on the NHS as an adult
I'm a little in the dark about this. Basically I live in London and I need braces but they're incredibly expensive if I go private. Now obviously being over 18 I know braces are no longer free on the NHS but I understand that it is sometimes possible on a case by case basis and I read somewhere that you can get the basic…

Omeprazole - Acid Reflux/Heartburn
I have been taking this drug for many years since I was diagnosed with oesophagitis. To be honest I thought it was an absolute miracle drug as I was able to eat and drink anything without the fear of developing painful heartburn/acid reflux. My GP told me at the time that this is one of the safest drugs and I would most…

Vitamin & Mineral Deficiencies
Hi Has anyone got any recommendations for tests for these based on experience? I'd rather see someone eg a doctor even privately to get the tests done or are there any reliable kits that can be done?

Is dentist ripping me off?
Hiya, 4 years ago my dentist said I had mild gum disease and that I needed to see her every 3 months to stop it getting worse, and even though I had no symptoms, I trusted her, I noticed that after every scale and polish my gums started to recede badly, I asked her why and she said that my mild gum disease was now severe…

Slimming in to Spring - Slimming World support thread 2019
Shiny new thread, with all the info carried over as follows:- Slimming World and Food Optimising is a plan for life, it's not a quick fix and you should look at weight losses over a period of time. Would You Complain - NHS
Hi, my friends mum recently died in hospital. During visits there he found they had her on the wrong levels of oxygen. A few times nearly gave her medication twice if he hadn't pointed out she had already had it. She had COPD. During her last week when he wasn't present the consultant apparently asked her did she want to…

Sebaceous cyst removal-privately
Hi, I am looking to get a small sebaceous cyst removed privately. NHS is a no go this time round. I had one removed on the NHS 5 years ago. The NHS surgeon didn't remove all of the cyst the first time round and it grew back, and so he had a second go at it to get it all out. Say, after private surgery the cyst grows back.…

NHS Healthcheck - poor take-up.
I keep hearing in the news about the NHS Health Check and the poor take-up of this service, however it says on the website to wait for a letter and that you should get one every 5 years. I'm 68 and I've never had such a letter, and nor has anyone I've spoken to. No wonder take up is poor. When asked for postcode for…

Dental advice
Hi all My partner visited the NHS dentist 2 weeks ago. All was well but he was advised to have a hygienist appointment. He went 10 days ago. A couple of days later he felt unwell and we thought it was a cold. He found a lump on his jaw yesterday and went back to the dentist who spent 5 minutes looking and said he had 2…

Low fragrance washing powder/liquid
I seem to find the fragrance of clothes after washing overpowering lately. It's just the scent, nothing else, and I don't think I'm allergic. Are they putting more fragrance in? I normally buy Formil from Lidl which is usually OK. However, today I notice the clothes are overpowering again. It might be because it's a…

Private or NHS ENT treatment?
Hi Folks, Had fish bone issue in my throat and so frustrated with the NHS. No CT scan requested just 1 x-ray which does not shows the tiny fish bone and in depth mouth examination, just a basic spoon look-in. Had a nasal endoscopy done which painful carried out by a young trainee doctor without my consent and later the…

Hair thinning?
Not sure where to put this. The last couple months I've noticed some light thinning of hair on my temples (more so one of them), and possibly light recession on the corners (hairline slightly more 'diagonal and deeper', possibly.... I actually have, and currently still do, i think, thick, full head of hair. I'm , in mid…

Cholesterol check
I'm 51. I remember a check up at my docs a few years ago where my cholesterol was slightly raised but the gp didn't seem too concerned. A few years on from that I wonder what my levels are now. I have a blood pressure monitor to keep an eye on that but I have read that home cholesterol kits aren't that accurate. Is there a…
