Awful weather - typical Brits talk
Well it's been downright awful here in Somerset for the last couple of days with non-stop rain! Just wondering how committed you lovely peeps are... have you been put off by gardening when it's raining? Are you a shrinking violet or a hardy perennial? Just a light hearted thread ☔🌧️

Neglected Lincolnshire garden
I'm going to start a "progress" thread on my garden as well. I've been here three weeks and planted a few of the things I brought with me because they desperately needed to be in the ground, but it's a bit of a drop in the ocean of grass! It's about 20m from the house to the back fence, and about 35m along the back fence,…

Possible rat hole?
Apologies if this is in wrong section. I am horrified to think I have found a rat hole in the garden. I have a large piece of heavy plastic covering section to keep weeds down till I get around to it. This morning it had all blown up so went to straighten it and found a round hole about 3 inch going down into earth about…

Gardening Express
Gardening Express Customer support are an absolute joke. You cant ring them only email which takes 5 days for a response. My complaint "conversation " went on for over 10 weeks. Only 25% of my order was actually delivered. On complaining they wanted me to prove I didn't receive my plants? I told them its for them to prove…

GreenFly - A 'flylady style' gardening thread with weekly tasks to tame your garden
What do we mean by GreenFly? Over on old style there is a long running and supportive community who focus on getting the house clean and tidy in smaller steps. A group of us thought that something similar for taming the garden would be very useful so here it is. The idea is that by doing little and often we can get on top…

What is this please?
It's white and powdery and growing on living and dead branches as well as the painted wooden slats on the compost bin. There's not a lot but it keeps cropping up. I first saw it on the branch of the apple tree in autumn but now it's other places. It can easily be brushed off and seems to have done no harm.

What's happened to my Acer!?
Morning all, Is anyone able to advise what may have happened to my Acer? Beautiful full bloom last year, lovely pink/red leaves all over, all seemed to be going well with growth through spring but then it seemed that only half the buds on the tree opened. Small buds can be seen on the one side but it's as if the growth has…

How do you season wood outside?
Hi I recently chainsawed a fallen tree (ash). How best to season the logs? I dont have any space in my garage, so will need to be kept outside. Is it enough to just leave them in a big pile for a year, or should I cover them with some tarpaulin? Perhaps everyone has their own way of seasoning wood, but Id like to hear some…

Best use for wood ashes
It's the time of year when I'm using the wood burner, and my ashes bucket is filling up with a mixture of wood ash and bits of charcoal. I understand that wood ash is high in potash, and charcoal is a good soil improver. But if I tip it around the plants at this time of year, the potash will leach away before the plants…

PFAS in garden compost bags.
Those bought at garden centres etc. are pretty rubbish nowadays w/o thinking about the PFAS issue. Anyone any thoughts on this subject? I am looking for ways to stop using this stuff in my allotment and only (where I really have to) for flowers and shrubs I don't eat. Thanks.

Grasses of the tall variety
I know nothing about them but like the idea of movement in a garden surrounded by fences. Are there any varieties that are easily maintained? I tried the little blue grass but although lovely for a couple of years it got overwhelmed with dead bits that didn't come out with a comb etc as suggested elsewhere. They eventually…

Cedar shed or something cheaper?
I need to replace a shed that is now falling down, rotten and beyond repair. Have been looking online and I like the look of cedar wood sheds, but not the price! Before I invest a lot of time investigating and picking one, does anyone have experience of having one? Would you get another one? Thanks
