Replacement Inverter Query
Our 3 phase Samil Solarlake 7000 Inverter is dead - Code 079 Relay failure. Warranty is just about useless apparently as Samil has pulled out of the UK market. If you take it from the commissioning date, it lasted one day less than the installers guarantee of one year. Our installer has offered (at our cost - problem for…

baseline reading?
I've been away for a week and thought I'd check and thought it was a good opportunity to check my baseline usage. So I've worked out I've been using .048 Kwh per hour (8.4Kwh over the 174 hours I've been away). How does this compare with other peoples usage? (3 bed house with a fridge/freezer, router and a TV on standby -…

SolarEdge dashboard issue!
Just retruned home from a weekend away to discover that the SolarEdge dashboard ceased recording after 8am this morning, thus showing only 3.69kwh for the day till then. The inverter is confirming current output around 6kwh so presumably the signals are either not getting through or there's a malfunction further down the…

4kw Solar panel quote
I have had a quote for 14 x 270 watt panels, a 3.6 dual MPPT inverter, installation, all MCS paperwork etc for a new build property at a cost of just over £4000. My main query is whether the savings sound right. Year 1 estimate for Annual PV generation is 3366 kWh. The FIT estimate is £134.62, Export tariff is £88.19 and…

New Build solar panels on lower rate FIT - help
Hello. Not a big poster but a big reader of MSE. Myself and my Girlfriend bought a wonderful new home from Taylor Wimpey with little fuss. However when looking to apply for the Feed In Tariff on our south facing solar panels, we have been put on the lower rate because TW managed to do our EPC certificate after installing…

Failed PV Panel
Last autumn I noticed that one of the panels on the garage roof looked slightly different from the others; in certain lighting conditions it looked slightly lighter and the silver strips connecting the cells in the module appeared to shine much more. Checking on the SolarEdge monitoring there was a 5% loss of output…

Cleaning Solar Panels
My panels are coming up to 3 years old now and I noticed bird muck on them earlier this week. Overnight rain cleared it all but I have noticed what appears to be green algae around the edges (not on the glass itself) and I'm just wondering what everyone else does about cleaning their panels and how often they do it. I…

"The Switch" by Chris Goodall
Has anyone else read this book? I've just finished it recently, and can totally recommend it for giving a thorough overview of developments in renewable energy. The writing style is easy to follow and the book is well structured, with the chapters flowing nicely on from eachother. Each time I had a "but what about...?"…

Invertors
Starting to get quotes for a roof PV. I have heard about individual panel optimisers, is the extra expense worth it in the long run? Also thinking of immersion heater option

Lichen and moss on solar panels
The installation has been in place for almost exactly 7 years now, and I've just spotted for the first time a build-up of lichen spots on several of the panels. Close inspection shows a fair bit of moss growth too, but this is primarily on the frames rather than the panels themselves. I'm pretty sure this lichen has…

Missold solar, company liquidated
Hi all, I am hoping someone can give me some advice on where to start at least. I had a salesman from ‘hot house ltd.’ Who missold my solar panels to me. He told me( and I have a recording of him) that I would pay £30 a month instead I’m paying £150. I didn’t realise this until about 6 months after! That company went into…

Damp in roofspace after solar panel installation
Hi, just wondering if anyone else who has solar panels fitted has noticed an increase in damp in their roofspace following solar panel installation. Since having solar panels fitted two and a half years ago, I noticed that boxes in the roofspace have warped from being damp, and also mould spreading over celings. House is…
