G59 DNO application process
Well, against all odds and hoping for electricity prices to go up (to help with my break-even calculations) I decided to go for the solar panels and a Tesla battery. I know the battery prices probably don't justify the spend, given how much extra self generated energy I can use myself, but I hope to switch to some flexible…

The FIT system is being scrapped!
The UK government has announced plans to axe the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme from April 2019. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has launched a consultation to scrap the Feed-in Tariff with no plans to replace the scheme. By scrapping the scheme, impact assessment analysis has shown that…

Inverter fault?
I have been up in my loft laying loftboards and I noticed the fault light on my inverter. The green power light was also flickering, and as darkness drew closer the inverter had no lights on, no power. I have just received my money from the last quarter, so the last time I looked the panels were generating electricity.…

Is there a thread for sustainable saving ie. saving the planet and money
Not sure how to describe this. I read somewhere on here lots of tips and ideas how to save the environment. I guess it was saving money at the same time. People shared tips on what they do such as not flushing every time, making your own cleaning products etc. Does anyone know where I can find this thread? I have looked…

Solar energy payments are set to be slashed - will getting panels still be worth it?
Found this on Facebook. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/team-blog/2018/08/solar-energy-payments-are-set-to-be-slashed---will-they-still-be/ I wonder why they did not publish it in Green & Ethical Moneysaving?

Leaving Utility Warehouse but keeping FIT account with them…experiences?
Hi, I currently use Utility Warehouse and they are nowhere near the cheapest. However, they do provide FIT payments which we need for our solar panels. I am looking to leave them and get our gas and electricity provided by a cheaper provider. Unless I’ve missed something, all of the cheapest don’t have the facility to do…

How do I locate my FIT supplier?
My stepson's former partner set up his FIT account with a supplier when he had his panels installed. Now that they have separated he has no way of knowing who she set up the FIT account with. How can he check out who she did it with?

Can You Place These Plastic Items? Looked but not finding...
Morning all, Well inspired originally by guilt, a long overdue wake up has seen us replace butter in plastic, squash & fizzy in plastic, sauces in plastic & slowly moving on buying fruit&veg in less packaging. And as of this week, we moving to milk delivered three times a week in glass. BUT .... I cannot find the following…

Solar installers in Worcs
Hello, I obtained a couple of quotes to install solar panels recently and then trawled through as many threads as I could about recommended extras (like SolarEdge & iBoost) and a target price range of £1k per 1kWp. The reason SE & iBoost appeal is because one of the quotes assessed 18% shading based on the Google image of…

Sunny portal emails?
For a couple of weeks now my Sunny Portal emails have been coming in with "no data". I logged into Sunny portal and the realtime generation info is still there, so I don't know what the issue is. Anyone else getting the same?

Solar panel orientation
I came across this article from 2014 which suggests an E-W configuration is best for solar panels - maybe not for maximising peak PV but certainly good for the grid and maybe, of more interest, better for day to day living. (I have reproduced the text of the article in a separate post - see below - but here is a link to…

Solar panels - is SolarEdge worth it?
Hello, I have had various quotes from a few companies for my solar panels and have narrowed it down to E-On Solar as being my potential supplier. They have given me two quotes, one for a standard set up of panels, and one optimised with SolarEdge. I understand the benefits of SolarEdge, but on my unshaded roof - apart from…

Lifestyle Change
I'm a long time reader of these forums but I've never posted here before. Now I want advice so I'm reaching out. Not sure this is really the right sub-forum but it seemed the most appropriate. I'm looking to change my life. I've tried hundreds of cost saving tips I've picked up on here and I've succeeded in living frugally…

What happens if a microinverter fails?
It hasn't happened yet. If a microinverter or its associated panel were to fail, would it always fail so as to be open-circuit, i.e. could the faulty components just be left on the roof forever? Losing one out of 14 may not be catastrophic: there would just be less generation.

Best energy supplier with solar panels
Does having solar panels make a difference to which energy supplier you should get? I guess it depends on your production/usage, but people with solar panels will be lower than average electricity users. Does that mean its better to get a supplier with zero or low standing charges? I just have eight panels, I have had them…

Solaredge Optimizer/Optimisers any experience retrofitting ?
Hi We purchased a property with a 2011 install (top FIT) in 2015. Recently I've roused myself to start monitoring the performance of this. The install cost £14.5k at the time for a 2kW install and pays about £600pa. I suspect the elderly couple who lived here before were taken advantage of - the install suffers from…

Optimisers
Hi All I have a small shading problem on three panels on one string due to a chimney.A search of the internet to see if there was a system that would cater for just the three panels in question resulted in the find of the tigo energy optimiser ts4r, which can be fitted to induvidual panels that are affected by shading and…

Solar or storage?
Hi all, My partner and I have just bought a brand new house. Well, I say just, we exchanged back in January but the completion is probably going to be at the end of August, we still don't know! I've been telling her about my "five year plan" which very disappointingly for her does not include babies or marriage (there is a…

My quote
I got solar fitted at the end of June, i've been reading lots of people's quotes and just wondering if what I paid was decent or if i've been robbed. I have 8 x JA Solar 300W panels (max roof could take) and a solar edge 2200 invertor. I have a massive tree near my property, there is a chance I could get shading off this.…

Solar PV during power cut
I was convinced the inverter required AC power to function. Yesterday afternoon our local area suffered power cuts all afternoon. During this time i was taking a business call over skype (wifi), prior i was watching TV which had been paused. During the call i reset my house alarm twice, also hearing alarms going off in the…
