Indesit dishwasher
Hi Peeps Just replaced my indesit dishwasher, with virtually the same one, now I always used the ECO wash on my other one, it used 0.94 kw per wash, on the new machine the same was uses 10.26 KW on the eco and 10.95 on the ordinary wash, this makes absolutely no sense to me, does anyone know why this would be? thanks sam

FiT / generation: how to see rpi increased rates?
Hi folks, I installed my solar panels and registered for FiT payments in December, before rates slightly dropped in Jan. If I'm not mistaken, the FiT rates go up each year - around now? Where can I see what the updated rates are? Thanks!

Electric Vehicle
I have bought a new Nissan Leaf 2.ZERO and got it on Friday. I have only driven it from the seller to home so do not have any real news yet. That said, it drives a lot better than the old version and there are a LOT of buttons. It looks as though a number of the panels are the same, such as doors, front pillars and roof.…

Zero waste, plastic-free, MoneySaving Christmas
So, I've finally got round to writing something I've planned to blog on for a while but never quite got to it. I may as well write a thread on it then turn it into an MSE blog when I get a moment... I'm obviously a MoneySaver! I'm also very much trying to reduce my family's impact on the environment so trying to be zero…

Faulty generation meter?
After eight years of running well, for the first time this quarter the inverter and the generation meter are showing drastically different readings. The inverter shows a generation this quarter of 115kWh, but the generation meter shows only 11kWh (eleven) over the same period. The 115kWh for this last quarter is consistent…

Solar PV and smart meter issue
I had some solar panels installed at the beginning of the week and today was the first day they hadn’t been covered in snow. During the day I was getting close to 1kw, viewable from the monitoring solution that comes with it (they are SolarEdge panels). The question is, I also have a smart meter with an indoor display and…

13 ways to use less plastic AND save cash
'Plastic waste has been in the headlines recently, with the PM proposing plastic-free aisles in supermarkets, Scotland planning to ban plastic cotton buds and Iceland stores aiming to slash plastic use. And it’s with good reason – shockingly, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation predicts there will be more plastic than fish in…

Use UFH to store heat?
Now that I'm thinking about how to get best use out of solar panels, the obvious win to me is a flooring system akin to a storage heater. One that uses the electricity produced during the day to "charge" the floor ready to emit heat in the evening. Does such a thing exist? I know there is solar thermal, but we're putting…

Which Company for Solar in Cambridge?
I recently had a visit from a very nice sales person for Project Solar UK. Now that I have their quote I want to compare to get the best deal and also to get the best Installers. The only negative reviews I have read for Project Solar relate to the installation and I am quite fearful of getting damage to not only my roof…

When a Recycle symbol does not mean Recyclable!
I suspect many of you will be aware of this, but I caught a snippet of a TV programme the other day where they explained that one of the apparent recycle symbols (a circle composed of two arrows looping into one another - a bit like yin-yang) does not necessarily mean the product is recyclable! Apparently companies can…

Failing to understand my PV diverter

Solar panel discolouration.
I'm after some advice on a solar panel I have just bought from ebay. It has various degrees of discolouration and I'm wondering if this is likely to cause a problem. I don't want to return the panel for no reason. The panel is identical to another that I bought from the same seller several months ago. That panel had no…

Solar in New Build House
Last year I moved into a brand new build house which came with Solar Panels. I'm now having great trouble trying to get British Gas to register them for FIT payments as they want an invoice in my name from the company that installed them, which I can't provide as they builders paid for them. The solar company have provided…
