Which FIT?
https://octopus.energy/blog/outgoing/Fixed Outgoing Octopus: a flat tariff, so you can sell your electricity at a flat unit price of 5.5p per kWh (the current FiT export price is 5.38p per kWh).Just wondering what price FIT new solar panel owners will get.I believe mine were installed in 2015 and I get around 5p per kWh.…

Hybrid Oil Boiler with Air Source Heat Pump
At present my house is heated by radiators supplied from an oil boiler (there is no gas supply where I live). The boiler is coming to the end of its life so I am looking at replacement options and I was tempted by the Grant VortexAir which is a hybrid combining an oil boiler with an air-source heat pump. The basic idea is…

‘Free’ Solar Panels - The Fallout
Hi all! I'm interested in seeing how many people have fallen foul to the free solar panels/rent-a-roof schemes of a few years ago. At the time they seemed great but I wonder how many people are now suffering as a result? Seems to me that, in reality, people were tempted by this promise of cheaper electric at no cost to…

Plastic bags
We bake a lot of bread and store in the freezer in plastic bags. We then reuse the bags after washing and air drying them. We are not entirely happy that this is completely safe from bacteria. Has anyone any suggestions for freezer storage of bread to ensure no freezer burn?

Free Solar Panels
Please could anyone help? I had free solar panels fiitted under the goverment energy efficiency scheme. In 2012 I had solar panels fitted back in 2012 and now have a leaking roof. I want to replace the damaged roof asap as my children are sleeping in damp, mouldy bedrooms. I am worried what damage this is causing to the…

Trustmark for Green Homes Grant- is it trustworthy?
Hi I’m just in the process of looking at the Government scheme Green Homes Grant where you can apply for £5k towards insulation and other house upgrades. You can apply later this month but the work needs to be carried out by Trustmark tradespeople.I looked at how you apply and came across your article…

Fuel Cell Boilers - Thoughts?
Does anyone have any experience? Currently the ship seems to have sailed on getting them at an economical price as the FIT was withdrawn and then presumably since Brexit we are no longer eligible for the PACE grants? But if they were included in the green recovery deal I would definitely be interested, not sure what the…

Social Energy?
Hi All. We are looking at solar and a battery. I realise we are post FIT but I Thought I have better check things out! I have had a quote from Moixa and Social energy. Project solar are coming too but I have just seen the comments about them!!!! My understanding is both are for a 4KW array with a roughly 5KwH battery. As…

Free insulation scam?
Hi everyone, I'm quite worried about something that happened today. So a guy showed up on my door, and explained me that the government was paying to fix the isolation in the lofts, so that would be free for me. They explained after checking my loft, that I had 100mm and 300mm was the required in the 2020 schedule, so they…

Immersun Overheating Hot Water
We have had Solar panels for 5 years. We have an immersun fitted to heat the water . Since having the installation the hot water has been very hot. During the five years we have had the panels we have had to have three new water pumps for the power shower. It is my belief that the very hot water has damaged them. I am…

Specific EV Charger - why bother?
Hi, Not sure if this is too techie for here but it's worth a shot... I get a company car and have just had a new Mercedes Hybrid delivered. I also get the benefit of free personal fuel which works out to cost about £100 a month in personal tax. As such it would technically cost me more to charge the car at home rather than…

Cost effectiveness of insulation?
I'm surprised to see fairly little discussion of insulation on this forum - is there a reason for that? Looking around the forum, the gist seems to be that a newly-fitted 4kW solar system on a typical house should be able to pay for itself in about 8 years, batteries are currently a bit of a non-starter, and ASHP/GSHPs -…

Co-Op no longer paying FiT
Just had an email that they will no longer be licensed after this quarter. Any suggestions for new supplier that might offer pain-free transfer and pay a little quicker than they did! Thanks

Do I really need a dedicated home charging unit?
Hi all, I have just had a Kia Niro PHEV delivered through work however I am uncertain if I truly need a dedicated home charging unit. It charges on a 3 pin plug in around 3 hours and although a dedicated charger would do it in under 2 hours the time to charge is not problematic. I have an outdoor 3 pin plug. I see some…

Today’s mini budget: environmental measures
Looking forward to the detail on this, particularly the EV development projects: Some £100m of new funding has been set aside for direct air capture, a technology that takes carbon dioxide out of the air, while an extra £10m will be given for new electric car development projects.…

New build air source heat pump advise please
Can anyone advise how good or bad these are? I am considering purchasing a new build and the options are LPG or ASHP. Builder was unable or unwilling to put in Nat Gas I believe due to very high cost of a new line. AFAIK you don't get renewable heat incentives on new builds so that's out. Are these low maintenance and long…

Green or not? Former Uskmouth power station to generate electricity from household waste!
Atlantic Future Energy are seeking investment capital to assist with conversion of the decommissioned coal fired Uskmouth power station to generate electricity from household waste in the form of processed dried pellets. Upon reading I first thought what a great project. On the one hand helping to solve the ever growing…
