Solar panel bird proofing required

We currently have a problem with pigeons roosting on our roof and getting under the solar panels so I'm looking into the best way of preventing them getting under.
I've had a couple of quotes to fit wire mesh around the edges ranging from £500 to £800 which at first sounded a bit steep.
Do these quotes sound ok and is wire mesh the best option ? I've seen a more solid type of edging but I'm not keen as I would imagine it would prevent airflow  and cooling under the panels.

  • Can you not just fit spokes? you can pre buy these in set lengths. What's the gap between the roof and panel?

Yeah I've seen those, looks like they have to be permanently bonded to the panels though ??
Gap I'd say is a couple of inches, certainly enough for wood pigeons to get under.

I guess 4 years on from when you had yours done, £500 is maybe about right. Although we only have 12 panels.
Did they need to put up scaffolding or just ladders ? (Our house is 2 storey so scaffolding might account for the £800 quote)

In July I paid £450+VAT (= £540) for pigeon proofing of my 16 panels on the house roof.  I had one quote which was over £1,200.  They accessed the roof by ladders.

After reading some of the thread mentioned above, £500-£600 does seem to be about the going rate.

Ah, didn't read the whole thread and assumed it was 2017 when you started the thread.
That seems a pretty good price you got in that case.
