Re posted as deleted by admin I mentioned something I'm not allowed to

Hi I am on Octopus for both Electricity and Gas. Electricity is Go Faster which suits me very well with Solar PV and Battery storage however my first year gas contract is coming to an end and the new quote is less than impressive. Currently I'm on 17.85 Standing Charge and 2.86 / unit. The new Tariff offer is 26.59 Standing Charge and 3.78 / unit. I'm a pretty light user so this change will push my bill up by at least £32 a year just in standing charges. I know there are a lot of comparison sites out there but is there a site that will just display tariffs? Happy for any recommendations from people NOT on dual fuel deals as I'm pretty sure I cannot beat Octopus Go Faster Electricity

  • I have switched from Octopus gas to Zog. FWiW, I believe that Octopus is slowly moving towards being an electricity only supplier. Their focus and investments are being targeted at generation; heat pumps; H2 and storage.

Look at the wholesale price of gas a year ago and today:

I wouldn’t dither and Zog offers the option of delaying your switch for up to. If I recall correctly, 49 days. The Octopus fixed price for my region is 3.8p/kWh. I suspect that you may looking at Price Promise which is variable depending on the Cap.

Thats not my issue, I am  happy to pay for what I use BUT the standing charge disproportionally penalises low users

Try a comparison on the two usual "independent" sites:
Tariff details are only a click or two away from the quotes. Don't get too hung up on the standing charge, what's important is the total cost to you over the period for the amount of gas you expect to use.
You might expect both sites to give the same results but my experience is that they don't!

Glad to know you've found a cheaper supplier!
I've not heard of daligas, sorry; there might be someone over on the "Energy" forum with experience.

Bear in mind that 1p on the standing charge increases your bill by just £3.65 a year but for an average gas user on 12000kwh a year just 0.1p per kwh adds £12 a year so try not to get to hung up on the standing charge unless you are a really low user.

As QrizB says it's the annual cost that's important - the increase in standing charge will cost you 8.74p x 365 = £31.90 whereas the increase of over 0.9p/kwh will make much more of a difference. You need to do the overall sum
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
