Trees falling into garden who is responsible
In the bad winds a few days ago several of our neighbours fir trees fell into our garden. They've done damage to the pond, the liner must have been pierced as it's gradually going down. Who should get them taken away, we don't want to have to pay. Hubby has remarked to the neighbour several times about the danger of the…

When to Start Planting: Tips for a Beginner
After spending all my adult life living in rented flats, I finally have my own house and my own (quite large) garden. It's a bit of a jungle at the moment and I can't wait to get started turning it into a colourful sanctuary. I'm a keen houseplant owner, but I've never done anything outdoors before. I'm sure I'll have many…

Camellia advice pretty please
Hi all. We had a dandy Camellia in the last house and since moving I’ve had to start from scratch on our bland undersized newbuild canvas. I’ve made a sort of ok bedding area at the sunniest aspect of the garden and have deliberately left a spot for a tree, ideally a new Camellia. Sourcing one isn’t the problem, the local…

Parsnips advice please
I've decided to grow parsnips for the first time, hoping to cheat by buying plug plants but they refuse to be transplanted apparently, so sowing seeds is the only option. They'll be in an old field trough, about 6ft x 2ft and 2ft deep, in a very open siruation and full of our own compost. Advice needed please! We are in…

Water saving tips
Hiya :) Looks like a lot of areas are going to have a prolonged period of no rain so I thought it might be an idea to share tips for conserving water. My waterbutts are running low and I'm looking for ideas really. This is what I'm doing so far: - only water by hand, and only water in the evening. Make sure the water goes…

Good gardening trouser?
I need to replace my gardening trousers, which have been on their last legs for several months. Composting woollen items
Has anybody had any experience of trying to compost down 100% woollen items like old sweaters in compost heaps?. I know man-made fibres don't rot down but wondered whether 100% natural products do rot down successfully. How long would it take in an active compost heap?

Composting Advice
I’m fairly new to growing my own and have never had any need to compost. However, just over a year ago we moved to a new house and we have a lovely garden with a raised bed and greenhouse. As I am finally in a position to grow my own this season, I thought I’d look into composting (I appreciate its not going to be ready…

ID please!
I have always thought this plant which I have had for nearly 30 years is a Yucca however certain people disagree! Any thoughts please? https://i.postimg.cc/9Qrj6cwf/C24-CB55-E-14-DB-43-E3-8793-01-D7-D05-F96-CD.jpg

Pennywort
Is there a way of permanently eradicating this nuisance 'weed'. I have diligently hand weeded over past years and it still persists. I am not able to change the growing environment as its in a natural stone wall which is pretty much permanently damp except in summer.

Winter flowering jasmine
I must confess to a love/hate relationship with my winter flowering jasmine. It’s looking good at the moment, in full bloom, now in its third year. The last two years I over-pruned it and didn’t get many flowers, so I left it pretty much alone last summer, except for one corner of the bush which was swamping a neighbouring…

Hawthorn hedge planting advice
I am a very novice garderner and after a fence blowing down in the storm I'd like to replace it with a hedge but wondered if it may be better to get a gardener in . Are they tricky to start planting or are they pretty robust as the soil is not the greatest. The line would need to be circa 35m and I am hoping to get bare…

Chilli plant advice please
Happy New year All. A quick question regarding one of my Chilli plants. I have a variety called Reaper, and as they are quite fleshy, I got nervous about leaving them in an unheated greenhouse, so in late October brought the plants into the house. All the leaves had fallen and it was just the fruit left on the plant. I've…
