As the title says, my camellia is starting to flower in January. Never known it to flower so early. I am in South Wales.

weed killer
Does anyone know where to buy a great weedkiller that can be watered down and put into a garden sprayer. Roundup is costing me a bomb

Pennywort
Is there a way of permanently eradicating this nuisance 'weed'. I have diligently hand weeded over past years and it still persists. I am not able to change the growing environment as its in a natural stone wall which is pretty much permanently damp except in summer.

Winter flowering jasmine
I must confess to a love/hate relationship with my winter flowering jasmine. It’s looking good at the moment, in full bloom, now in its third year. The last two years I over-pruned it and didn’t get many flowers, so I left it pretty much alone last summer, except for one corner of the bush which was swamping a neighbouring…

Hawthorn hedge planting advice
I am a very novice garderner and after a fence blowing down in the storm I'd like to replace it with a hedge but wondered if it may be better to get a gardener in . Are they tricky to start planting or are they pretty robust as the soil is not the greatest. The line would need to be circa 35m and I am hoping to get bare…

New Greenhouse, Seed Sowing and Propogator Advice
I love growing fruit and veg but until now have never had a greenhouse. This year, now we have a greenhouse I'd love to grow a wider range of things including chilies, aubergines, peppers and tomatoes. I'm looking for some advice regarding buying a heater propagator / greenhouse heater. I want to avoid having seeds and…

Chilli plant advice please
Happy New year All. A quick question regarding one of my Chilli plants. I have a variety called Reaper, and as they are quite fleshy, I got nervous about leaving them in an unheated greenhouse, so in late October brought the plants into the house. All the leaves had fallen and it was just the fruit left on the plant. I've…

Recommended Seed Suppliers
I'm looking for recommendations of where to purchase good quality seeds at a reasonable price. We have 4 large raised beds and a new Greenhouse, so as well as the outdoor staples (courgettes, squash, chard, beans, beetroot, tomatoes, squash), I plan to try a few new things next year including chillies, aubergines, peppers…

When do propagators and pots come into the shops
When do the shops like b and m and wilko start getting the gardening products in, I want to get a couple of windowsill propagators and some large pots to start things off early in 2020 but they are a bit pricey in the garden centre.

Opium poppies
Have just seen an image of an opium poppy. Am I correct in thinking that they were pretty common in the UK? Am sure I used to see them growing wild in my teens.... or was it a different plant?

Squirrels digging up my bulbs
How do I disabuse the local squirrel population of the belief that my containers are full of tasty snacks?

Leaf blower and vacuum
I was considering buying a leaf blower-and-vacuum device to help make tidying the driveway and back garden easier. Ideally electric (our garden tools are electric so using an extension plug isn't much hassle). I looked at Bosch and there's good and bad reviews. What do other people have and would (or would not) recommend?

Advice on young tree maintenance
I've got a young bay tree - about 14" tall - with a 4" sucker on it. Both currently appear to be thriving. I'd quite like to move the sucker to it's own pot, as I started off with 5 bay cuttings and I'm down to 1, but originally wanted a pair. Am I right that this is best done in the spring now? Similarly, I have a dwarf…

Cheapest material for raised beds
I am hoping to set up a number of raised beds in my large garden - there would be 5 or 6 beds 30 - 35 ft x 4 ft and I was wondering what would be the most economic method of building the beds? I've looked at sleepers but these are mega expensive. I need raised beds as with increasing age I find it more difficult to bend to…

Neighbour complaining about tree
My v elderly parents garden has a medium sized tree I think it's an Ash. Neighbour's do not like any shade in their garden. Parents tree is near boundary fence & causes some shade half way down their (neighbour's) garden. Previously neighbour demanded of gardener to cut it down, he ignored them. Now I've been informed by…

Sunbelievable or unbelievable?
How does this work then? This sunflower from Thompson & Morgan is, apparently, a sterile annual. It won third prize at Chelsea. And you can get one plant for £15, which will presumably look great all summer, die, and then, well, that's it. Fair play, it's a great-looking plant, but this is Greenfingered MoneySaving, and I…

If you could only grow ONE thing...
Hello all! After a fairly disasterous summer of growing (no)things, I've decided to narrow my focus for the next year. This years disasters include: * Brassicas were completely destroyed by caterpillars * Onions just didn't grow. * Courgettes got mildew and died. * Spinach and chard destroyed by slugs. * Blueberries...…

Trees that grow under the fence
I recently had my next door neighbour ask us to sort out a tree on our side of the fence because it was growing against the fence and making it bow. We got it removed, but when they cut it down to ground level and started grinding the stump, about 90% of the stump was on the neighbour's side (but I think below ground…

Large Garden - Wanting to use to be self sufficient :) any books/video recommendations please?
Hello :) I'm not really sure where to start sorry so thought it would be great to start here as I know this forum is full of knowledgable peeps :) I'm not too sure of the exact size of my garden but its really quite big.
