Tree Heather experience?
Always wanted one and they are for sale locally. If I have to plant in the sun it will have to be in a pot maybe as there are drains very near. Can't find out their rooting habit. Erica veitchii is the type. What are my chances of success with a pot? There's a strong cool wind where I can put it in a sunny spot.

I love gardening and have not been able to go in the garden without getting upset by cats fouling the lawns. I have done everything possible to deter them with no luck. They poo on top of the prickly branches and everywhere on top of the plants and lately the driveway. My neighbour does not have this problem as they park…

Plant Support Prices
I have some Gladioli ready to go in shortly, last year they did really well. Only trouble was during some bad weather they tended to bend badly and drooped. I was looking for some supports but crikey they're expensive to buy from Garden Centres/online. I saw a programme last year where rebar was used, are there any…

Any good uses for an old hosepipe?
Before I make a trip to the tip I have an old hosepipe, one of the green reinforced ones but it's been just collapsing onto itself for a few years now and I'm fed up with having to squidge the squeezed bits every time I need it.Just wondered if there are any other uses? I hate to throw stuff but sometimes it's for sanity…

Container Gardening - pH soil testing
Morning, hoping to start preparing the soil in my containers today for planting seeds at the end of this month / early March. Have got a pH testing kit to check how the soil is. Looking to use the same soil type this year compared to last year. Is that a good thing? Or do seeds grow better in soil which hasn't been used…

I am not going to relawn (yet!) my 10x3m patch as this will be given over to 6 raised beds for vegetables growing. I need to improve my clay patch for…

Netting for raised bed
Hi all, After being on an allotment waiting list for 5+ years and barely moving up it, my mum has kindly offered a chunk of her garden that was previously unused. I've built some raised beds and, as a novice, intend to follow the guidance in the "Veg in One Bed" book by Huw Richards. Other areas of the garden get a lot of…

Any ideas for 'decorating' this fence?
OK so I have the usual bungalow windy alley down the side. The fence is my neighbours who kindly painted it in her favourite orange preservative which goes around the back too. It's not my favourite or even my all right but it's cheap panels, possibily the original 20yr built ones with bends and gaps. She is 86 but a sharp…

Grass and Sweet Peas
Two things I've not had to consider before and searching the net brings up conflicting answers so I'd appreciate some experience and know how. Sweet Peas I usually end up buying as I have friend, a competition grower, who sells of his surplus & someone who does wonderful plants at a car boot. Obviously neither will happen…

Growing (annuals?) next to neighbour’s house wall
Before our time here, the previous owners created a block driveway, leaving a narrow trench filled with gravel between our drive and next door’s Victorian terrace. The house is rented on a regular, ever changing basis so I can’t consult the owner. I’d like to soften the look a bit and maybe plant some low, pretty summer…
