Overgrown buddleia ( part 2 ) ..
Howdy ! I posted here about issues regarding the above , back in October iirc. The pink stuff is all gone .However, the green weedy stuff has come back and is over growing again There was only so much I could do back then , as being a leaseholder with 2 directors in my block I couldn’t destroy the branches altogether. I…

Swivel sheers?
Anyone used these that can comment if they work fine or if there are problems? I have the badger run full of coarse long grass and would be a hassle and time consuming to get the strimmer extension over a 7mt fence. Ive used scissors but it's awkward and sheers are really set for thicker stuff. These would be ideal if they…

Front Garden Bed - Any help would be super!
Hi here, I have a small garden bed at the front of my house, sadly some of the plants there have died and it looks quite untidy. My section is the bit to the right of the red line: xxx Can anyone suggest some plants I can put in here to improve the look of this area? There are only two criteria... 1.I need to fill this…

Another "is this a weed?" thread
I have lots of these all over the garden - in the vegetable patch, and in the various borders around the place. Are they weeds, and are they the same weed? They both seem to have red stems towards the lower end, though the second photo has red leaves as well - I was thinking that might just be further on than the first…

Trees and ivy
At what point should one worry/take action about trees covered in ivy? The False Acacia and the Sycamore in our communal garden are about 30+ metres high and have ivy up to their tops. Should I be pressurising the management company to get it removed? We also have a similarly huge horse chestnut which drops bits of branch…

New Garden Rescue
Wondering who, if anyone is watching. Now the darling boys have gone it's been a few trials. BBC1 Tuesday. Loved yesterdays. Flo Headlam there seems to be a good connection that was cheerful, something they tried to achieve in the old format. It took on a more happy programme. So does anyone have opinions on the various…

How to kill a sycamore
There is a patch at the end of the big flower bed, right by a yew tree that you’d think would be pretty dry and infertile. But no, a sycamore seeded itself, as did my bear’s britches. I want the bear’s britches; I don’t want the sycamore. It’s more than a seedling now and is flourishing. I glyphosated it last year during…

What is the most attractive bush/shrub in the wurld?
Ok, obviously very subjective, but I have a space for a nice bush/shrub on a raised bank, and was wondering if there's anything special out there that's particularly pleasing to the eye.Ultimate size prob around 2m high and spread. Evergreen ideal, tho' not essential (I know that would restrict things quite a bit.) And…

Can you identify this plant please
I saw these striking yellow flowers at RHS Wisley yesterday but didn't spot any label. Can you identify them for me?Feathery foliage, growing in dry poor soil about 4 feet or and more tall, look a bit like fennel but didn't smell like it, and too early i would have thought

What is this bird?
This bird has just made a visit to my garden - anyone know what it is? I'm useless at identifying birds and I can't decide if it's any of the birds of prey shown on the RSPB website as they all look slightly different (to me)! All I do know is that it's not any of the two types of common birds in my garden, being wood…

Small lightweight mower required
My elderly wife says we need to replace our electric cylinder lawn mower that collects grass. We've only a small grassed area, about 5yds by 3yds. I'm now faced with a decision, hover, cylinder or rotary. Ideally it will be small and lightweight. I'm much older and less able than she. Would anyone care to recommend one…

Large outdoor pots
I want to buy one of those large (about 2ft 6ins) outdoor pots to plant up. They are that thick plastic stuff - do I put a hole in the bottom? How do you plant up one of these huge post? Do I put a container inside and if so how do I fix it inside?

laying stepping stones
I have read you need to put down a weed membrane and cover with a layer of sand in which you embed the stones. However I want to have grasses or moss around each stone so can I just level the ground and put the stones on top of the soil?

Rose graft visible
I have a beautiful Girlguiding UK Centenary rose which I planted at least five years ago in a large pot outside my front door - there's a matching one on the other side. It blooms and blooms so wonderfully, especially when I dead-head it. Now I notice that the graft part of the stem is more visible than before, does it…

Woodlice
Can anyone elighten me. I understand that woodlice are a great insect in that they absorb toxic and radioactive chemicals in soil etc. If so that's great but I can't find out what happens to the chemicals that are absorbed in the insects body when it dies or is eaten by a bird etc.
