Nescafe question
I have been buying 200g jars of Nescafe for quite some time at £stretcher. They have different shaped jars, or the lids differ but appear to be the same 'normal/regular'coffee. All have same picture of red mug of black coffee. However, some say Nescafe Classic , some Nescafe Original, some Nescafe Classico. Some have a bit…

lactose free milk at Aldi
I discovered this morning that Aldi have introduced a lactose free milk. £1.15 (compared to the usual £1.35 for the Arla variety). Maybe that is why the Arla one is on special offer at Tesco and Asda! The Aldi one is only semi skimmed thought, and I usually prefer skimmed, so I shall have to come to some sort of decision…

Fruit pricing by piece
I've noticed that all supermarkets have recently changed to pricing almost all of their fresh fruit by the piece rather than by weight. This is to discourage comparison between retailers and to disguise inflation by shrinking the size of fruit while keeping the cost the same. I strongly suspect that small greengrocers and…

Frozen fruit
Frozen fruit has really gone up a hell of a lot, not long ago I always bought the Tesco value 90p for 500g. Then similar mixed frozen fruit in Sainsbury's and the other supermarkets were about £1.50-£1.80 per kilo. Now I struggle to find any under £2 per kilo. The value ranges are all over £2kg even as high as £2.99kg I…

Misleading website!
Aldi were advertising a goid deal on shower gel recently "available in store" it said. My local store knew nothing about it and when I approached Aldi online they told me the product was only available in the north! No response to my enquiry as to why they didn't say "available in store only in the north" on the website. ;)

All Dolce Gusto blends only £3.99 @StormBrew.co.uk
Hello, Just had an email from StormBrew.co.uk to say that all Dolce Gusto blends have been reduced to £3.99 for the month of July. Also, there is free shipping over £23. I normally pay £4.50 in my supermarket. They have an amazing selection - about 30+ blends vs my local Tesco with a mere 5!! So annoying that the prices…

Coconut Milk
What coconut milk (or coconut cream / creamed coconut) do you buy? I'm looking to work out what is the best value (not necessarily cheapest), and it's difficult. Coconut cream / creamed coconut / coconut milk and varying %s within each make it complicated!

Eggs!
Where do you buy eggs? I usually just pick up a box of free range as I'm flying round Aldi but while down in Devon I got some free from a farm shop (Greendale I think it's called, it's fab!) and realised what I've been missing. The yolks were bright orange, they were fresh as anything, and the taste out of this world.…

Posionous strawberries on the loose
Police issue public safety warning after 100kg of strawberries coated in 'poison' are stolen in massive fruit heist. Its probably best to satisfy your strawberry needs from SMs where there is a clearly auditable supply chain, until Wimbledon is over at the very least. Market stalls are probably best avoided for now…

Please Post Your Exceptional Fruit Finds
:hello: It would be good to have place to post about any really good quality fruit buys that posters have found. As is often lamented on the boards, fruit is generally disappointing these days. Perhaps it's due to being picked too early, so it goes straight from under-ripe to off without passing through ripe. Fruit is…

Tesco is trialling getting rid of 5p plastic bags
Hi all Tesco is trialling removing 5p plastic bags from its stores (it will still be selling its 10p bags for life). The trial will be in just three stores for now - Aberdeen, Dundee and Norwich - and will last 10 weeks. What do you think? It's 18 months or so since the plastic bag charge came in. Have you got used to…

Green banana flour or bread
I'm interested in food made from green banana flour since it has a high content of indigestible carbohydrate. I read that in Africa green banana flour is actually cheaper than wheat flour, presumably due to the climate. Does anyone know a cheap source of banana flour or bread (not !!!!!!! bread" which is made with regular…

interesting comparisons
Hello, I don't usually come onto this board -I usually hang out at Old Style. However, this post seemed to fit better with you. I don't know if any of you ever visit the Savvy Woman website, but Sarah Pennells has done a price comparison across supermarkets for 6 basic items. Asda was the cheapest, with Aldi & Lidl much…
