Simply Switch/MSE Cashback Discrepancy - Watch Out
If you use the MSE link to Simply Switch,(http://www.simplyenergy.com/mse/), MSE says you get £15 for each switch. But if you use the link then click on terms, they say you only get £10. Who gets the other £5? Doesn't MSE get paid on top of the £15, or do they get the £5? That means you would be better off using another of…

I have been looking into switching elec and gas from BG to Npower (energy helpline inform me they are the cheapest, and I have confirmed this on npowers website). I know I can get a £12.50 "switch" cashback from energy helpline. If I switch through NPower they say you can get £60 a year (DD payment and dual fuel) refund.…

Relative efficiencies of Gas and Electricity
Gas per kWh is much cheaper than electricity. I have in the back of mind that electricity for heating is more efficient- less energy goes in to thin air. Is that true? If so, what are the ratios ? And why are gas calculations so complicated with their 'correction factors' and ever changing 'calorific values'

Have I calculated the figures properly?
Hi, I have accurately worked out the unit consumption for the last year for gas (1587) and electricity (6979). I have then multiplied the number of gas units by 11.16 to convert this number to kWh which makes it a whopping 17719! And the electricity units are already kWh. When I go to a comparison site using these figures…

Meter Readings - How often?
Does anyone out there know of any Gas and Electricity suppliers who will read your meters once a quarter or least twice a year? My present supplier, ‘Atlantic Electric & Gas’ read the meters annually. Eyesight and positioning of meters rules out doing it myself. Thanks in advance. James

I must give you all a warning about price comparison sites after my experience this week. I recently got the letter from Powergen detailing the new…

Bah! Please help! Damn Scottishpower to the bowels of Hell!
Meh. They're not that bad, but I was wondering if anyone can give advice here. It's a bit of a complex issue. We (me and my flatmate) moved into a two-bedroom apartment in the centre of Newcastle last September. The provider for the power is Scottish Power. Boo hiss. The place is heated by a storage heater and lots of…

London Energy best tarrif for "brand new customers only"
After much deliberating I decided to use the utility comparison sites to see who was now cheapest in my area to supply me fuel. I am currently with London Energy and found that the cheapest rates that I could get were to go onto online billing with them and pay by monthly direct debit. I have now been told that I cannot…

Shocker of a Gas Bill
I received my gas bill today - £460 for 5 radiators! I switched on 21 Dec from Scottish Gas to Hydro Electric, did all the things, checked uswitch, checked the rates BG vs Hydro on wattage or whatever they use - realised at the end of March I hadn't received a bill, the guy said there was a problem changing from BG and the…

British Gas doorstep salesmen
Just had a doorstep visit from a BG salesman trying to tell me that they have noticed that we are being overcharged on our fuel bills. I asked how he could possibly know that and he said that our bills were estimated. Well, we are with Equipower for both gas and elec and Southern Electric have people who read meters every…

Seeboard estimated bills
Hello! After receiving my estimated Seeboard gas and electricity bills in Febuary, I rang in to give my gas reading, and entered my electricity reading over the internet. The estimated energy use on both bills was higher than my current meter readings. I received the latest bills this week. The gas has had £20 knocked off;…

Can I switch back and keep old a/c?
Until about 6 weeks ago, I was with Powergen . I used Uswitch and found Scottish Power could save me about £10 a month, and along with a £22 cashback through Greasy Palm, I decided to switch to Scottish Power. I always pay monthly DD and have paid my first payment of £38 to Scottish Power. However, Powergen have sent me…

NPower the cheapest, but is it?
I have just done a comparison for gas and electricity and it came out with NPower as the cheapest, saying I could save £410 per year. Now, do I believe this? Have read some horror stories on here about switching and then people not getting the savings promised. Has anybody changed to NPower and, more importantly, are they…
