How much can house prices keep rising ?
I was talking this over with a friend the other day. Considering the average UK Salary now is £26,000, and to get a mortgage I am under the impression that you can lend up to five times your income (now minus expenses, so even less than before), that assuming the average couple is on a household income of £50,000 (which I…

Investors must prepare their portfolios for the end of globalisation.
Investors must prepare their portfolios for the end of globalisation. EDIT - well maybe not the end, but certainly some big changes Trumps 'America First' strapline tells me that globalisation is to be replaced with Economic Nationalism. The 'liberal' elite will of course detest this change, but the time has arrived when…

Government loses Brexit vote appeal

Anyone else experienceing a slow market in Scotland (selling)
Short version of the story to start with, I will elaborate as necessary. In 2012 we made the decision to move (actually to build the new house and sell the old one). 2012 was not a good time to think about selling a house as the house market here, like most of the UK was in recession since 2008 (it had just taken us 3…

Is London HTB 40% loan, mis-selling?
The 40% HTB loan for London properties places a significant debt burden on FTB's that opt for it. I mean, it sounds good doesn't it, 40% interest free loan, but after 5 years the buyer has to start paying interest on it on top of their mortgage. So it's a sweetner up front but leaves a bad taste longer term doesn't it. The…

Londoners, how do you feel about the property market situation?
I just saw a shed for sale at £400,000. How do you guys feel about the living situation in London? Do you see yourself getting on the property ladder and getting a home there? If so, how? How do you feel about living in London and desires to own a home?

Offers over?
We are buying a second property for family to live in. Just starting to identify suitable properties for viewing etc. When something says offers over £50000 how cheeky is it to offer below or if offering over how much would be right to offer over (as in theory you could offer 50005). Any thoughts?

How quickly should Britain leave the EU.
How quickly should Britain leave the EU. So we are where we are. Britain voted to Leave the EU nearly 7 months ago. As of today Prime Minister May will activate A50 at the end of March 2017, about 9 months after the referendum. The time frame allows 2 years to negotiate the leaving that takes us to April 2019. 33 months…

FTB's Up.....
More first-time buyers got onto the property ladder in 2016 than in any year since 2007, but would-be home owners now need to raise over £32,000 on average for a deposit, figures show. The number of first-time buyers is estimated to have reached 335,750 in 2016, according to Halifax. It is the highest figure since 359,900…

Luton up 20% last year
Luton, anything left to give or had its day? Two years ago no one would touch Luton, all of a sudden property hotspot, Bedfordshire always been hertfordshires poorer cousin and overlooked, seems to be catching up.

PM speech on Tuesday - Pound down 5% on Monday?
What do you reckon? I'm thinking every time from now on when a top UK or EU politico postures about Brexit negotiations or lack of, markets will have a kneejerk overreaction one way or the other. The "hard" Brexit apparently being mooted (I prefer "clean" myself) on Tuesday will drive it down tomorrow I forecast. Then when…

Labour people, its time to dump Corbyn
The country needs a decent opposition, we're going to the dogs. Brexit is a fools paradise and we need someone capable of fighting this nonsense. Let's unite under one banner, to remain and reform the one union that really counts in a globalised world of financial capital that can play countries off against each other…

Straw poll: Do you want to retain FOM?
EDIT: I'm aware that the title of the thread does not match the subject of the poll. I am looking for votes from LEAVE voters only unfortunately. This is a very quick straw poll to try to understand the minds of the leave voters around here. I'm told I need to do this so that we can move forward properly. I've…

Does the US appear to be sabre rattling suddenly?
What's left of the 'Obama administration' appears to be attempting to antagonise countries all over the place. Does anyone have any theories as to why this is? Why didn't Obama engage in these actions when he was in power? Doesn't seem a good idea given how increasingly unstable the world is becoming.

Household debt rises to highest level since 2008
Household debt is now aat highs reached only in 2008, just before the credit crunch. Debt levels of households have risen 10.8% in a single year. The data excludes mortgages, and only looks at loans and credit cards. The people in power have warned about high debt levels, but seem very reluctant to actually do anything…
