Voluntary credit card cancellation
Since retiring, I have not used a number of credit cards that I needed for my job. I have received letters from the credit companies advising that unless I use them, they will be cancelled by them within 60 days. That's fine by me, however I have been warned that cancellation may affect my credit score. Apparently this…

Should I pay off my full balance?
I could pay off my credit card balance from my savings and then pay myself back at the same rate, finishing six months earlier, thus saving me £600 if making a £100 monthly payment. Obviously there are going to be drawbacks, too: - It will reduce my savings and, if I continue to use my credit card, it will mean making two…

mbna credit card - payments keep being blocked
Hi - I've had several different credit cards and I think this is the first time I've had this issue - a few times this week when I've tried to make a payment it gets blocked and I get a text saying 'was that you'. Is mbna particularly risk-averse? Or is it just that the card is fairly new and they'll eventually calm down?

Credit cards - there is hope
I've been in debt for years at >20%, always paying slightly over the minimum & throwing whatever I could at it here & there. I've not been able to get 0% BTs for years. Then a couple of weeks back one of my cards offered me a 0% balance transfer so I figured something must've changed. I went onto MSE eligibility checker &…

Tips for how much credit limit to ask for in new credit card application?
The bank always decides how much credit they will grant you so why do some ask how much you would like? Why not just tell you what they are happy to offer. Some do. If you go low because you are afraid of asking for too much you get stuck. If you go high will that put the mokkers on the application because their algorithm…

High interest rates charged on credit card vs 0%

Credit Utilisation vs Total Available Credit
If the aim is to be able to get a 0% offer or card somewhere to reduce interest, which would have a bigger beneficial impact on working towards that goal? If I was to close a card I have fully paid off and therefore reduce my total available credit to a lower percentage of my income versus increasing my credit utilisation…
