Pulse Card payment due date

Had an email from Pulse Credit card which is run by Newday advising me that they are going to move the statement date and payment due date by 5 days but leaving the Direct debit date as it is now.  It basically means that they will be taking the DD 5 days before the payment due date.

Somewhat intrigued to find out the reason for this, I rang them up and was told that due to some customers whose DD fails, (due to insufficient funds) they are giving them an extra 5 days to make a payment so that they won't be charged a late payment fee which would otherwise happen if they take the DD on the due date. I had a good laugh- what a pathetic reply.

Now I don't know of any other credit card providers who process the DD before the payment due date.  It makes a mockery of the so called payment due date.  So what I'd like to know from other forum members, does your credit card company take the money from your bank account before it is due, and is it considered an ethical practice for Newday to do this.

Both Santander and Tesco take the DD in advance of the due date.
From my previous statements, Tesco due date 11 Mar, DD 6th Mar.
