M&S Credit Card Application

My husband applied for an M&S credit card through MSE. At the end of the application it stated they had received it and it would take 5 working days for the decision. Over a week later he’s received no reference number, no correspondence, or email. How do we go about following up with no details at hand?

    Call the applications number.

  • Anyone else has this?  I did the same got the same message.  Called the application line said there is no application and to apply again?

I would check your credit reports for a Hard Credit Search from them, if they have then the system has received your application and it would be worth going back to M&S customer services explaining this.

  • Did you ever hear back? I applied on 27/11 and got an error message, but the check shows on my credit file. Almost a month now but they have told me they have the application but no emails, letters, calls, etc since!

    Merry Christmas!
  • Has any one successfully applied for this? Applied 5 December, got standard message 11 December about it being under review, large number of applications etc

not sure I have the energy to chase it up, I’d forgotten to be honest until i saw it again on the latest MSE email.

Yes, someone else in my household applied a few days before christmas, and the card arrived in the post just before new year so about 5/6 working days after application. They have existing customer profiles with HSBC & First Direct so not sure if that helps shift things along a bit quicker

I applied for one one 11th Dec. Got an email on 19th saying my application was being considered. Heard nothing more so called just after Xmas. They said I'd been approved but there was a backlog in processing applications hence the delay. Haven't heard anything since! Not particularly impressed.
  • I still haven't heard back from them but have chased on the phone several times. They're still saying they've had a large number of applications but haven't given any indication of whether I've been approved or not - cutting it fine with the end of a 0% period on another card that I was looking to transfer, might need to apply elsewhere as the lack of communication/correspondence is concerning.

Just ring them up and ask, that will be the only way you get an answer as no-one here would be able to tell you

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
