I applied around six weeks ago. Heard nothing at all then out o& the blue yesterday received an email stating I’d been accepted and would receive my card shortly. No idea if I’ll get the voucher that was on offer when I first applied but we’ll see. Definitely not impressed with their admin!
  • Surely they have to be better than that 6 weeks is a long time to wait. I was only trying for it to use for a holiday gives u more months to sort payment but if I have to wait 6 weeks I will have already paid a chunk of the holiday, hopefully not a good idea turning crap in my case.
  • I rang again today as it had been 50 days and told that the application had been 'aborted' and had been since the 30 day point - despite being told every week that it was being processed.

Said I would need to apply again and they might be able to remove the credit check from my file if I applied with them. Politely declined, applied elsewhere, accepted and sorted in 5 minutes.

The amount of staff I've spoken to since November that have just lied about my application is pretty impressive - won't be touching M&S Bank going forward. Hope everyone has better luck than I have!
  • Did they ever tell u that u were accepted for it?
  • M&S emailed me to say my credit card application was approved on 28th Nov. I signed the agreement and returned it to them on the same date. I have heard nothing from them since! I’ve chased multiple times to be repeatedly told they have a high number of applications to process and there is currently a backlog… Has anyone actually received their credit card?

The chances of someone else on this board applying and waiting in the same time frame is pretty low

I had a card about 18 months ago that arrived without any problems when they were doing the cashback promotion so maybe they were less busy

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • I applied towards the end of December and was accepted within 24 hours. My card arrived a few days later. I have had no problems with them.

I called them again today for an update. I was told my application is still waiting to be ‘finalised’ and this should take 2 weeks, then my card will be sent out.
I was first told my application is just needing to be finalised in mid-December!
  • I too applied for an M&S credit card (28-month 0% balance transfer offer) via MSE and the experience has not been good!
Applied end of November 2023 and an M&S Financial Services 'Hard Search' appeared on my Credit Score one week later. I received approval and credit limit confirmation 6 weeks later (early January) and was sent, digitally signed and returned the M&S Credit Card Agreement the same week, which prompted an M&S confirmation that the agreement had been 'fully executed'.
Then... nothing - for 3 months!
This week (second week of April 2024) I rang M&S Financial Services and was told an email had been sent to the card applications department. Next day, a voicemail informed me my application had expired (no explanation why), but they would be "happy to resubmit my application using my original submission."
Needless to say, I'm considering whether it's worth bothering, especially reading forum comments that this is not an isolated incident. M&S has always been a go-to store for many of our requirements, and I appreciate that M&S Bank financial services is administered on their behalf by others, but this kind of runaround does not reflect well on Marks & Spencer as a whole and really leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
A very frustrating experience. Probably best to look elsewhere.
