Which Index to track?
Hi All, I'm thinking of putting some money in an Index Tracker (part of the money will be within an ISA). Any views much appreciated please, especially with regard to which Index to track; I am currently considering the FTSE All-Share Index. Many thanks. Brian.

Hi all I'd appreciate some advice again please... I have 30k in Halifax and 30k in Lloyds. Now they have merged the combined total is more than the 50k guarenteed by the government. Solicitors/Accountants. Client monies safe?
In the dim and distant past I worked for a firm of solicitors. At that time, whilst individual client monies were kept seperate from office monies and individualy allocated to each client within the firms accounts, the clients money was kept in a single account at the bank if there was not enough time, for cheque clearance…

Should I sell my Lloyds TSB shares now?
I have some shares in Lloyds TSB and was thinking of selling them. Is it a good time to sell them? What do other people think? I just think it might be better to have the money so to speak than in bank shares at the present time.

Has Robert Peston Worsened the Credit Crisis?
Hi For a job interview this week I have to do a presentation, the topic I have chosen is the above. I was hoping for some thoughts. I have been researching the banking crisis of the early 1970s where information regarding Nat West was closely guarded and it makes an interesting comparison to todays abundance of leaks and…

A generous gift
My two year old son was very fortunate to be given a cheque for £5000 on his recent birthday. As you would expect, this means nothing to him, but it has given me a bit of a headache. How to best invest it? I have already opened a stock market based CTF All-Share tracker with F&C, which receives an additional £25p/m. This…

Does anyone have a list of the dates when the rates changed from last summer when it was 6.50% (including bonus)? I want to calculate how much money there should be in the account. Are there NO 'safe' banks?
I see today that the Government is having to pump even more of the taxpayers's cash into the banks. Is there not at least ONE bank somewhere who has run their business efficiently without exposing themselves to the global financial situation. I did think HSBC were fairly stable, but now even they seem to require an…
