Anglo Irish 1 yr fixed 5% - to proceed or not?
I applied for this account at the end of last week for my Dad. The majority of his retirement payout (£50K) is due to be invested but the application is going through and we can still stop the cheque. Given the nationalisation I'd really appreciate some advice on what to do? I can see UK gaurentee fixed deals for around 4%.

Good time to buy shares?
RBS shares are 11.6p, does this look like a good time to buy? They look real cheap, considering they were £6+ only one year ago. This is a massive discount. Looks like a good buy and hold for a year or so before they rocket :money:

RBS losses: wrote down everything?
We recently saw media reports that banks may not be writing down all of their CDO exposure, and this was attributed to the 25% fall in Barclays share price last Friday. Then RBS today announced - well before time - that it expected to write-down a massive £20 billion on top of losses of £8 billion. This had me wondering…

Tesco Savings Account
Hey, I opened an account on the eve of the deadline (7th January 2008) as instructed by :money: to receive 6% interest. I've received the paperwork, and enclosed is a leaflet with the interest rates from the 8th January. Am I going to get the higher rate? (My dates might not be 100% correct, but hopefully you get the gist).

How safe is RBS?
My wife and I have banked with NatWest for decades. All of our income streams (pensions etc.) are paid into our current account. My wife also has over £8,000 of working capital in a NatWest E-Savings account. My question is this.... Should we hope for the best or bail out of this dead duck asap. Having just recovered from…

Banks/economy collapse
Does anyone think taking out all your money now would be wise? If the banks have no money n things do truly go pear shaped wouldnt it be better to have ur money in ur home? I see now that unemployment is now gonna reach 3.4million, seem s a random number...almost a guess. How bad is this gonna get as its really bad now. I…

Hoodless Brennan dealing account holders
...have you had any trouble placing trades over recent times, and does the limit/stop system work "properly"? Reason I ask, I've just decided to switch away from Interactive Investor. They've put up a big notice saying they can't handle tradeplan deals (ie: stops, limits etc) at the moment due to market activity, and are…

Would the UK gov also take on board the Halifax International subsiduary? Anybody got any ideas what my risk is? Did NR…

Hi all, My 8 month old son has been taken on by a reputable modelling agency, has been to his first casting and has been chosen to do a large advertising campaign for a well known brand of yoghurts  . This will have to be rewritten...lies, all lies
Copied and pasted from the current RBS/Natwest website : In March 2000, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group completed the acquisition of NatWest in a £21 billion deal that was the largest take-over in British banking history. NatWest is now part of a financial services group which is the second largest bank by market…

Will we now see an end??
To the multi million pound sponsorship deals that the major banks have with various sports? It's a bit galling that they won't lend house purchasers and businesses money, but are perfectly happy to ensure that footballers(e.g) can afford Ferraris,Bentleys etc.Surely this form of 'advertising' has now run its course

The end of Scottish banknotes ?
On a lighter note following RBS share price dropping 70% today as of this moment and almost certain to be nationalised and Bank of Scotland already taken over effectively by Lloyds; both being London owned and run, probably brings an end to their right to issue Scottish banknotes. Sadly we are left with one Ozzie bank…

Higher rate tax
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this one but... I've just had a pay rise and am now in the higher rate bracket. Can anybody tell me what happens to my savings please? Do I need to inform my banks, fill in a tax return, or will 40% be deduced from my interest automatically (instead of the current 20%)?
