...have you had any trouble placing trades over recent times, and does the limit/stop system work "properly"?
Reason I ask, I've just decided to switch away from Interactive Investor. They've put up a big notice saying they can't handle tradeplan deals (ie: stops, limits etc) at the moment due to market activity, and are also having trouble filling orders. Poor show in my view so I need somewhere more reliable.

been absolute crap all day yesterday, keeps telling me to phone the helpdesk to place my order:mad:0

I think its down to the huge volume in trade thats been occurring on the banks. This should be short lived so should calm down. Been happening for the last few days on natwest sharedealing too.0

I had rather bad experiences with HB. It's not uncommon to have your orders not filled - they will send you an e-mail and say they can't fulfill your order, if you still want the order you need to re-enter the order. I think the reason we have orders is because we're not screen watchers - imagine going out, coming back to notice your orders not filled, and your price way below your stop-loss price!
Also had issues last time, their system went down, the online system doesn't acknowledge that I own certain shares, I called up and they said they can help me deal with it over the phone (they can see that I have shares over their side), but not put any stop-loss orders for me. As a result, I had to just sell the shares (as I am not comfortable trading without stops, especially if I'm away from my computer) - am in the process of demanding compensation from them regarding this, as due to their system failures, I'm effectively wasting my money going in then out (spreads+commission+stamp duty).
I will definitely recommend The Share Centre - their order filling system is impeccable.0 -
Have just placed a limit trade so we'll see how the system copes with that...0

My experience of sharedealing is not extensive but I have opened a dealing account with Hoodless Brennan. I have set two stop/loss recently. On the first the stop loss kicked in but not until the share price had fallen considerably below the stop/loss price. In fact it sold at the 'bottom' price as the share price recovered shortly afterwards.
On the second occassion I was watching online at the time. The stop/loss did not kick in as the price dropped so I actually sold them myself albeit it quite a bit lower.
I later phoned the helpdesk and enquired why the stop/loss had not worked. At first I was told it was becaause I hadnt the stock to sell (obviously if it tried after I had sold them). I was then told it was because the market was busy but I explained I had been able to sell them online. They did a few checks and got back to me the following day with an apology and agreed to refund the difference between the price I sold them at and the stop/loss price. Fair enough, but I have now lost faith in any automated stop/loss.0 -
Guess I won't be using HB then!Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.0
