Hi
For a job interview this week I have to do a presentation, the topic I have chosen is the above. I was hoping for some thoughts. I have been researching the banking crisis of the early 1970s where information regarding Nat West was closely guarded and it makes an interesting comparison to todays abundance of leaks and scoops.
Also I would be very grateful if anyone could tell me when a cartoon apeared in The Times depicting a man in a pinstripe suit hiding behind a sofa when Robert Peston is on TV. My tutor told me about it but I cannot find it anywhere. Even The Times couldn't tell me.
Thanks in advance
Nick

Hi, found this link on another website: it's not the cartoon you were after, but it's a bit similar, so maybe take a look there. The cartoon is the 8th one down on the page http://www.cartoonstock.com/directory/f/financial_crisis.asp0

Also, http://www.politicalcartoon.co.uk/html/library.html can find you any cartoon of the last 100 years for a £25 fee, so not very money saving. But if you get in touch with them and explain your need for the pic, they might give you the name of the cartoonist/date it appeared? Sorry to not be of more help! Good luck with the interview!0

yes. at least he helped strike the fear of god into ordinary folk which hence in turn caused the massive queues outside northern rock branches and general widespread consumer panic.

No actually he didn't. Of course, the queues were reported once they'd happened, because they were news. But the BBC made it clear that there was no definite reason to panic. They were much more restrained than the rest of the media.
A few weeks before the panic, there were stories that a major bank, most likely Barclays, was in serious difficulties. Again the BBC made it clear that there was no confirmed substance to the rumours and on that occasion they went away.
you can't blame one commentator for a panic reaction by the population.0 -
