Financial advisers - are they worthwhile
Okay, that is a silly question. Let me re-phrase it. For a person with say 20k in savings (a bank account) who is aware of various investment options but a little risk averse, can they add value? I love the idea of shares or a fund, but am dubious about the risk of losing money. I have ISAs and no mortgage to pay off.…

Any increases by Yorkshire or B/B
Following the 0.25% rate increase, has anyone heard any news from Yorkshire or Bradford & Bingley? I can never understand why some societies announce increases almost immediately, whilst others, you wonder if they've forgotten!

Alliance and Leicester savings 12% p.a.
Is this a good deal? - if you already have the money does it make more sense to put it in a lower-paying account all at once? (and then transfer it monthly to the A&L account, if that is possible). It's 'one year term' - does that mean the account has to be closed at the end of the year?

Whiteaway Laidlaw Bank 6.06%
I notice Whiteaway Laidlaw Bank, now part of the Manchester Building Society, are right up there at 6.06% with their 60-day notice account, yet I never see a mention of them on here. They appear to be FSA-regulated etc, there seem to be no catches. Anyone know anything good or bad about them?
