CTF for children born berfore 2002?
Can you set up a Child's Trust Fund for children born before 2002? My children are 11 & 13 and I am interested in setting up some form of a CTF for them. Is this possible? I know I won't get the government contribution, but can a CTF be set up for me to regularly pay into and for them to access when they are 18? I'd…

Easy Access Savings Account for Children
My son has just started a paper round and wants to open a savings account so that he can start saving his hard-earned cash. Ideally he would like one that has a reasonable rate of interest but also easy access (ideally with some form of cash card). Does such an account exist or are they all bank/building society-branch…

trackers and indices
hi i was thinking of tracker funds, and how they aim to replicatethe performance of an index. now i realise that management charges (though low in trackers) and other expenses mean that it may slightly underperform the index. however, where do dividends come in? with the ftse 100 yielding nearly 3% then surely that should…

The tables have turned
6 months ago we were up to our eyeballs in debt, earning a pittance, and at our wits' end. Last week saw the first milestone towards our recovery - we sold our suburban plot and now have enough money to pay off the debt, and put down a deposit on a more modest home. Our mortgage will be £100 lower per month also. So, we've…

Savings accounts that provide savings "book"
Hi, My new partner whilst being extreemly organised re money (every last penny gets entered into her "sums book") she is unfortunately a complete technophobe. pensioner - tax on savings?
Hi all, If my elderly relative has a private pension that brings her earnings to just over her personal allowance (she pays about £140pa income tax) am I correct in thinking she has to pay tax on her savings account interest? i.e. she shouldn't request to have her interest paid gross. Thanks in advance.

NS&I Index-linked Savings Certificates ??
Hi, Can you invest in these if you've already used your tax free ISA allowance; and IF SO, is there a limit as to how much money you can invest in any tax year? I'm guessing you can't invest more than £15k in any tax year....? Also.... if I initially invested say £5k, could I then invest a further £10k in that same issue…

Your savings and investment porfolios
I would be very interested to hear what sort of portfolios members on this site have, it may give others ideas as to what are good and poor investments, what has and has not worked for particular members etc. My own portfollio is rather mundane as I am really only starting off but it is as follows. £2000 in premium bonds.…

Hi all, I've just filled my ISA up for this year and now have £3k to save. Definately want an account I can manage online and from scanning the site its appears Ice (5.95%) and ICICI (6.05%) are clearly the best two options. However, from my research it appears a few people have had trouble with ICICI in the past. Can…

Will £12k BONUS pay affect tax deducted from my savings?
My salary is £30K. I could be getting a bonus of around £12K before tax shortly. As I understand it, the 40% tax band kicks in at around £34,600. Will this £12K bonus technically make me a 40% tax payer for this year; AND how will this affect my tax situation regarding my savings of approx £45K? Tax is currently being…
