£5000 best way to invest for child until 18?

Hello,
I have £5000 to invest for each of my two children aged 1 and 3, given to them by their grandfather. I want to invest it the best way possible and will not need access to it until they are at least 18. Savings accounts? or other ways?
Please advise as most info I've read refers to instant access accounts not long term investments no access investments.
Thanks.
